Magic items that grow over time?

Legend
What are the different sources for magic items that grow in power over time as characters level?

There is the base system for some items that you can increase enchantments by crafting more power into them (making a +1 sword into a +1 flaming sword, etc.)

There are Weapons of Legacy which gain more powers with drawbacks from level 5 on after a feat and ritual with uncovered lore and gold.

There is vow of poverty feat from Book of Exalted Deeds that gives gear equivalent magical effects that grow over time.

There the kensai prestige class from Complete Warrior that pumps up their weapon as they level.

There is the soulknife's mindblade from Expanded Psionics Handbook

There are Eldritch Staffs from FFG's Path of Magic that require a con point and drawbacks.

There are relics from FFG's Spells and Spellcraft that require xp and/or gold.

There are artifacts from Artifacts of Legend by Mindforge Games that require expenditure of xp to level up the items.

There are the scion prestige classes from WotC's Unearthed Arcana/Bastion Press' Arms & Armor 3.5/Game Mechanics Series of Artifact books (Staves of Ascendance/Swords of X, Etc.)

Anything from Dragon Magazine?

Other sources?

Before the CW came out a similar process for weapons appeared, "Heirloom" items maybe. I remember something about Samurai being mentiond.

I think it appeared in Dragon, maybe as far back as 3.0?.

Well, you can increase the power of your devices by investing more points in them in some systems, I believe that both Four Colors to Fantasy and Mutants and Masterminds allow this. BESM offers much the same procedure. Both Eclipse: The Codex Persona (Imbuement and Empowerment are easiest) and The Practical Enchanter have a variety of methods to do this as well. Some of the old second edition Samurai kits allowed them to increase the power of their swords, as did the second edition Kensai rules. There were some power-amplifying devices (cast spells as if +x levels was most common) written up for first edition.

One of our characters had a (house rule) "mastersword" that gained one enhancement per level taken in the Swordmaster PrC. The player character basically got to pick what was raised/added, and could save for more powerful enhancements, like firey burst.
