Magic Jar and the Tarrasque

Yup--the Tarrasque has a +38 Fort save in the SRD.

I'm sure there are better builds out there, but off the top of my head you can get it to +30 very easily. But getting to +40 is pretty hard.

Grey Elf, start with INT = 20.
Put all stats bumps in INT, 20th level character = 25
Tome of Clear Thought = 30
Headband of Intellect = 36
Spellcasting Prodigy = effectively 38
INT 38 = +14 mod

Fifth level spell: DC = 10 + 5 + 14 = 28

Spell Focus: appropriate school = +1
Greater Spell Focus = another +1

Total so far = 30

What else can pump up the DC?

Munchkins....

Felix, I think the point about SR is that the body of the T has it always. If it is taken over by the MJ, the SR would not just go away, at least that is how I would rule it.

Yup, that's what I meant. The Magic Jar spell description says that the body retains "its automatic abilities. For example, a fish's body breathes water and a troll's body regenerates." Rgeeneration is also an Ex ability, and even though the caster who takes over a troll's body can't access it, the ability continus to work as usual. Admittedly regeneration is not an Ex ability which one can raise/lower (as SR can be), but I think the example is close enough to indicate how SR would work in this case.

I don't see the point. Big T, after all is just an animal ... Druid tough enough to surviwe fev rounds of "claw, tooth and nail dance" should persuade it with animal empathy to go away and eat orcs instead of humies. Orcs are tastier. ;)

Or I'm missing the point and this whole situation is about bloodthirsty murder of innocent Big T ? :]

Unfortunately, that's not possible. The tarrasque is a magical beast with a 3 Int, and the druid's or ranger's Wild Empathy ability only works on magical beasts if they have an Int of 1 or 2.

Yeah, pretty much :D

Patman21967 & shilsen:

Fair enough.

Still though, it's an Ex ability with an on/off switch, or, if you like, an automatic ability. I'd tend to give a mage who can MJ a Terrasque the benefit of the doubt.

Heh, not that I DM anyway...

Don't get bothered by the SR. Just make the wizard cast a spell on itself (it's Tarrasque self), like Alter Self or Polymorph. This would lose the SR easily.

(other spells by said wizard are ok too, since a creature’s spell resistance never interferes with its own spells, items, or abilities).

Shilsen et al are right; the caster cannot access the T's SR (and I think it's practically a house rule to imagine that the SR is always on, except for when you possess it).

Just a quick point on the Lower Spell Resistance DC, the spell states that the target takes a penalty on its save equal to your caster level, making it a quite feasible option.

However I would note the spell is close range and I would also read the jump skill in the PHB, anyone flying in that close might be in for a nasty suprise from its vertical reach, even if the Big T doesn't start jumping!

poor wizard...

...has anyone thought what pain the wizard would have to take to get Big T killed??? Doesnt he feel the damage he gets? Whats with the idea of taking a big stone and hit yourself until you are almost dead? ....Ouch!
