magic missile minigun

The most recent example of a mini-gun I can think of is from Black hawk down. They were mounted on the sides of the the blackhawks. In the scene where the empty shell casings are raining down on the lead character. That's a mini-gun. Not sure about ammo size though. I'll ask my friends, they're ammo troops in the army.

But like others have said, impossible to actually use one without it being mounted. The recoil would send you flying.

If I've got it right:

Wonder if you can still cast while holding metamagic rods? Do you even need to hold them?

2 lesser rods of quicken - 8 or 12 magic missiles in a round, depending...

If you can cast while holding - 2 of quicken, 4 of empower and/or maximise?

Although that might fracture it's GP limit a tiny bit...

6 true strikes followed up with 6 rays of enfeeblment - that's gonna smart 6D6+30 strength drain, with no save. That's even worse for Mr Tank than the missile swarm, if a bit debatable as to whether it would work.

And why not Shapeshift into this from? If so, then I'm guessing it's an Ex or Su ability... Fun for the epic spellcaster with Auto Quicken Spell?

Edit: For sanity's sake, I'd probably rule that these things can't cast the same spell more than once per round. Feel it would add variety to the smackdown. :)

Of course, they don't fire a guaranteed-to-hit force effect, but not every weapon is as cool as magic missile.

that's the modern magic missile

back in the OD&D days you still had to roll to hit. of course, it did 1d6+1 (2-7hp) damage

The cannon on the A-10 is NOT a minigun though there is a resemblance from the spinning barrels. The A-10's cannon fires 30mm depleted uranium shells which are about the size of a coke bottle. The minigun fires 5.56mm bullets which is the same round that the M-16 uses (about the same size as a pencil broken into quarters). They used to mount miniguns on Hueys in Vietnam because it was an absolutely phenomenal anti-personel weapon and worked well against light unarmored vehicles.

Please note that it is very early in the morning and I haven't had my coffee. I could be wrong about the Minigun ammo, it may use 7.62mm rounds but I'm pretty sure about the 5.56.

Most miniguns you see in helicopters are the M-136, which is 7,62mm. There is also a 5,56mm model, but I don't know if they really use it. The A-10 30mm gun indeed is a different beast, it even has different amount barrels - 7 vs. the normal 6 of miniguns.

Of course no one would be able fire the minigun from the hip, the recoil would be too much. Even for the terminator, if he isn't bolted to the ground, or his boots don't have somekind of special adhesive in the bottoms.

The class of weapons weapons we are talking about are more properly referred to as "Gatling Guns" after the civil war inventor who created the type of weapon.

Mini-Gun simply refers to a type that was developed during Viet Nam, the M134. It does use 7.62mm ammunition and is intended for mounted (vehicle) use, but there is a 5.56x45mm the XM214 "Six Pak.", which is man portable though at least according to this web site the one used in the movies was actually a modified version of the M134.

Wouldn't work, for two reasons.

1. If you cast six True Strikes one round, then all six would overlap and apply a single +20 bonus to your next single attack roll - the first RoE you cast in the next round. You could, rather, do True-Strike-followed-by-RoE three times a round for two rounds. However...

2. Ray of Enfeeblement applies a penalty, and does not stack with itself. Cast six RoEs at one person, you're basically just increasing the likelihood that
you'll roll a 6.

From www.fast-rewind.com/predator.htm

The first time Jesse tried to fire the M-134 he was nearly hurt (severely) as the expended brass was ejected upward, and hit him in the chest. Afterwords, he wore body armor and they rebuilt the "Furniture" (the grips used to hold the weapon) so that the weapon ejected downward. The weapon was also firing at such a rate, that even with blanks the recoil was so great that they needed to reduce the rate of fire even further than the usual half rate. The M-134 usually fires at a rate of 6000 Rounds Per Minute (yes, that is 100 rounds PER SECOND!) or a half rate of 3000 RPM, and even that was too much. They eventually settled on a lower fire rate. Of course, the M-134, or any RBC (Rotary Barrel Cannon sometimes called "Mini guns") are not hand fired weapons and the recoil is nearly unimaginable. The weapon has such recoil that it would tip an ATV over and you can see light trucks move under the recoil (at full fire rate)...
