Any interest in this one? I don't know much about Magic, so I'm not sure I'm qualified to submit a proposal. I'll do a little research and see.

If you are a fan of Magic: The Gathering, and if you have always wanted to become a novelist, now you have a great opportunity!

What are we looking for?

Wizards of the Coast is seeking proposals for a novel in the Magic: The Gathering novel line. This proposal will serve as a demonstration of your ability to write, your ability to craft a novel-length outline, and your knowledge of Magic: The Gathering. The author of the selected proposal will write books for the 2006/2007 Magic: The Gathering card block concurrent to its development.

Please read these guidelines very carefully before submitting. Submissions that do not conform to the guidelines will not be accepted and will be recycled immediately. This is an "open call" and we expect a large number of submissions.

The proposals that we are accepting should take place after the Invasion cycle, by J. Robert King. The proposal should focus on post-apocalyptic Dominaria and, in particular, the phased-out lands of Shiv and Jamuraa, taking advantage of the rich story elements, characters, and plot available from the Invasion cycle. This setting has been chosen for its richness of plot possibilities as well as for its ability to demonstrate writers’ Magic: The Gathering story knowledge.

Your essential reference is the Magic: The Gathering Invasion cycle books and cards -- study them well. Stories must grow organically from this setting. Please don't try to retrofit a "generic" fantasy story into Dominaria. Learn the setting -- as much as you can in the time allowed, anyway. Readers of the Magic: The Gathering novel line are very particular about the world’s continuity, and so are we.

not dominaria

Taken from the WotC forums, a post in response to the comment, "they gave away what the next cardblock is":

"No no, the parameters given for submissions are just designed to give us an idea of each author's backstory knowledge. Asking for the stories to be set in Dominaria helps prevent us from getting random fantasy fiction that's not specific to Magic.

^Thanks for the info.

Incidentally, can anyone provide a link to this thread or another discussing the open call? I've been poking around, but can't seem to find anything.
