Magical items for children?

How minor a magic item are you thinking about? Like limited to cantrip-level effects? 200gp? Or just anything that a kid's father might think a kids might find useful?

There are things already statted out, like ring of featherfall or cloak of resistance,to keep him safe. Or hat of disguise or hand of the mage to help him get into trouble (especially hand of the mage, because how AWESOME would it be for a little boy to wear a MUMMIFIED HAND around his neck??!??!!)

And you could make up all sorts of things. Off the top of my head, some low-power Wondrous Items that might be pretty cheap to make:

- Box of 50 Mothers' Kisses: (single use) self adhesive bandages, cure minor wounds on contact.

- Mending box: (3x/day) casts mending on a broken item placed in the box.

- Daze'n'Dash Amulet: (1x/day) When grasped and a command word whispered, a target of the wearer's choice is dazed; and the wearer is granted expeditious retreat for one minute.

- Squirt crossbow: (ranged attack action) looks like a hand crossbow, shoots 2oz "bolts" of water to a distance of 20ft.

- Everclean underwear: self explanatory, and not especially interesting for the kid... but he'll thank his father later in life.

How about a Rod of Dissuasion that makes someone give up a point of view. Say it automatically turns an attitude from Unfriendly to Indifferent x/day so if an NPC catches him doing something relatively naughty they'll give him a slap on the wrist instead of something more serious. But getting caught stealing will still lead to hands chopped off.

Something like a choker that gives him DR 1/+1.
He falls or runs into a door? No damage, his skin is like iron.
Someone stabs him? Sucks to be him.
Not to mention, chokers are awesome. Have a leash go with it.

How about a rock with the Returning weapon property?

Proficency with a sling.

...perhaps not something good ol' dad would give him, but he'd have tons of fun with it.

Interesting campaign.

Quite a few stories revolve around the adventures of children. Just watch out for a TPK.

Nothing quite as sad as seeing children torn apart ogres or something.
