Magical quivers (or lack thereof)

TracerBullet42

First Post
I was creating a new character the other day, who's focused on the use of a longbow, and I was trying to find a cool/useful magical quiver. While the Quiver of Ehlona in the DMG is nice, it was the only one I could find.

What others have you seen out there and what can they do? And if you could be so kind as to mention the source, I'll think happy thoughts on your behalf.

Thanks, you're a peach. (and I don't mean that in a "BAM! Polymorph...now you're a peach" kinda way...)

I hope you mean mighty composite longbow, if it's an archery based character.

One quiver that I wanted for an archer of mine was a quiver that cast GMW 3 times per day. With the new 3.5 damage reduction rules, you might want one that created arrows with tips of different materials, probably using one of the creation spells.

Remember you don't have to be limited to just what is in the DMG. Think what you want a quiver to do and then go and check what spells could be used to achieve that objective and talk to the DM about it.

Finally there are numerous Complete/Total/Guide/Phone Numbers Of Fighters books out there and they ought to have at least a couple of magic items of interest to an archer.

Scabbard of Keen Edges would be easy to transmorph into a Quiver of Keen Arrows -- holds 20 arrows, casts Keen Edge on them 3/day, costs the same (16,000 gp).

There's also Psionic items. From the Mind's Eye, consider these not-quite-quiver items:

Bracelet of Bolts: When activated, this polished brass bracelet causes an arrow, bolt, or sling stone to appear in your hand as the bolt power. The bracelet keeps the object for 1 hour or until used. This bracelet is special in that can be combined with the bracelet of thrust and become one bracelet. The combined bracelet can be activated as a single item. The effect is as the bracelet of bolts, though all ammunition created also has the effects of the thrust power applied to it.
Manifester Level: 3rd; Prerequisites: Craft Universal Item, bolt; Market Price: 200 gp; Weight: 1 lb.

Bracelet of Thrust: This polished brass bracelet, once activated, grants the effects of the thrust power. This bracelet is special in that can be combined with the bracelet of bolts and become one bracelet. The combined bracelet can be activated as a single item. The effect is as the bracelet of bolts, however all ammunition created also has the effects of the thrust power applied to it.
Manifester Level: 3rd; Prerequisites: Craft Universal Item, thrust; Market Price: 200 gp; Weight: 1 lb.

The Midnight setting has a Covenant Item that's a quiver.

Sorry, that's all I got.

Quiver of Sharpness - once per day, an arrow drawn from it is considered keen

Quiver of Quivering - once per week, an arrow drawn from it can deliver a quivering palm attack, per the monk ability

Bottomless Quiver - never runs out of normal arrows

Hidden Quiver - a quiver that can hold a bow and arrows, but looks like a bedroll slung over the shoulder

P.S. - I'm not registered for the Chicago gameday because I still don't have reliable transportation.

What sort of features were you needing in this quiver?

...and why aren't you signed up for the Chicago Gameday?

Well, there aren't any features I "need" out of this quiver. I was just curious to see what else was out there. I was a little stunned that in the 8-9 books I looked in, I only found one magical quiver. Just curious, that's all.

And about the game day...well. I don't know why I'm not signed up. I suppose I could be. I've never really just jumped into a game like that before. And I'm not really all that familiar with systems other than D&D. But I see that there are a few openings in one of those games. How does that work? Are the characters all pre-generated when you show up? How do I sign up? Perhaps I need to pay another visit to Games Plus...

Woah...a lot of responses while I was typing that last post...

Yes, I've got a mighty composite bow. And a pair of Deepwood Sniper levels, so I've already got keen arrows and imp. crit +1...

I like the idea of having it create different kinds of arrows...or looking like a bedroll...

Any more ideas?

What books have you used? Is there something in the Three Arrows for a King book by EN World Publishing, perhaps?

As for the gameday, sorry you can't make it Greatwyrm. Hopefully you can work out some transportation and just show up. We'll make some room in the games for you if you can.

TB42 - Just jump in the gameday thread and ask about which ever games look good to you. The DM will let you know if there are generation guidelines or if there are pre-gens available. Free gaming and prizes included for everyone who signs up and shows up, can't be beat! :)

In my last campaign, one PC had a bow that came with 3 magical arrows - one blew up in a 10' radius 6d6 fireball, one cast darkness at the point of impact, and the other cast faerie fire at point of impact. Each arrow was a once a day thing, and they were linked to the bow, so that they would reappear in the quiver of whoever held the bow. You could easily make a quiver with the same properties.
