Maintaining your secret identity

Most traditional Superman methods of getting money are much harder or even impossible now. You can’t just walk into a jeweller’s or brokerage in most modern countries and dump a handful of diamonds or a lump of gold on the counter; it’s basically valueless without provenance. You might as well try and sell a lump of weapons-grade plutonium. Those who would take a chance and pay you for them would give you less than a cent on the dollar.

If you obtain and try to sell manufactured goods such as trading cards, they’re traceable - how did a rare card from China end up in an eBay auction in Germany without any obvious transit? You might be able to sell to unscrupulous billionaires and similar who don’t care about legality or provenance and who can and will pay for all sorts of stupid stuff, but that’s ethically very dodgy and they will probably still track you, out of curiosity if nothing else, and you got more troubles. Heck, at that point you might as well try and sell cocaine you confiscated from drug cartels.

There are simply lots of things you don’t need money for (travel, for instance) and maybe you just build safe houses with your bare hands in extremely remote and inhospitable regions. It’s illegal because you don’t own the land, but it’s less problematic and harmful than many other options.
The idea would be to sell some stuff that is more readily available and only rare because it is more common in one place than in another. Less rare Japanese Gold foil Black Lotuses (I made this up) and more European Spectrum clones to American collectors.

Heck, just selling Japanese Nintendo Switch 2's all over Latin America.

But you don’t need superpowers to do that. eBay makes it easy. Anybody can buy something from somebody in one country and sell it to someone in another without leaving their chair.

I just figured you Poney up some money for fake ID and then you go to a war torn country of your choice where you want to do your ‘good deeds’ and join as a free lance mercenary. Money goes in overseas bank accounts or wherever. I just figure there’s a lot less scrutiny in a country that’s being torn apart. I mean, there is surveillance but they are not looking for a single entity.

I think MoonSong's plan was to undercut the eBay scene by not having to factor international shipping into the price.
Also, selling in person for cash avoids electronic data trails for governments and other investigators/hackers to track. BONUS: you’ll probably get a better price without the resellers taking a cut.

But the challenge isn’t making a living. You can just have a job. The challenge is not being unmasked as a supe.
