Alright, so, I guess this thread could be an MLB-MLD&D comparison rather than MLG-MLD&D, but that's cool!

6'4" 240lb man as being ideal in physique.

I'm not sure where you are getting that number from, but many pro american football players don't qualify for that size. Only lineman are typically that large (larger actually), a lot of linebackers have been/are that size, but the game as been moving to smaller/speeder linebackers in recent years. Other than that it is odd to see a football player that size.

EDIT: Not to mention most Hollywood actors are not that size either.

John Wayne, Christopher Reeves, etc. There is an important scene in the original Superman movie where Superman is asked about his size by Lois Lane. Watch that scene again.

Also, that's roughly the ideal size of an NFL Quarterback. Tom Brady for example is 6'4" and a 'svelte' 225. Peyton Manning is 6'5" and 230. On the opposite side, that's a prototypical size for an ideal inside linebacker - Lawrence Taylor was 6'3" and 238, for example. Pro, tight ends and their opposite number the defensive ends tend to be near that size but a bit heavier.

Sure. A prototypical CB or WR is about 6'2" and 190lb, and it's not unusual to see receivers and defensive backs that are smaller.

While there have always been players that succeed in this position by being quick and agile, we do note them as smaller/speedier. And besides, the "smaller/speedier" linebackers are still in the 6'1"-6'2" 230-240lb range.

Point is, Americans expect an athlete to look like Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Jonah Lomu, where as outside the US they are considered freakishly huge.

Not any more. Leading men used to be much bigger though. Jimmy Stewart for example was 6'3". Clint Eastwood 6'4". Sean Connery 6'2". Chris Hemsworth and to a lesser extent Chris Evans is a more of a return to the classic square jawed leading man, ironically thrust into that stardom by the need to cast men who fit more of the classic frame from the Golden Age of comics.

Sounds like we basically agree to the facts, we just derive different results from them.
