Making a Dragon Disciple

Any suggestions? I am thinking of going for bard to start since they have more melee type skills and the dragon disciple really doesn't add much to a spellcaster. I don't think that the character will be very powerful, or even matched in any way to the group as a whole but I have always fancied playing a character with a draconic element. Probably of a red dragon descent to make him a little evil, but with the probably lack of strength in combat and no magic to support his evilness it might play out odd so I guess a silver or gold dragon is good too.

Here is an idea I played with for a while:

Wild Elf Sorc/Barbarian/Dragon Disciple.

Best attributes go in Con, Str and Charisma. Look towards 5th level Disciple when you become size large and can use a Huge Great Sword two handed or a normal Great Sword as a one-handed weapon.

True Strike with Power Attack is the main trick to this character.

From FRCS:

Wild Elves:
+2 Dex -2 Int
Automatic Languages Elven, Common, home region
Bonus Languages: Gnoll, Illuskan, Orc, Sylvan, Tashalan
Favored class: Sorcerer

This should correspond to what is in the Monster Manual, except for the FR languages part.

Using Standard Array, I would probably do it:

Con 15
Str 13
Cha 14
Dex 12+2 = 14
Int 10-2 = 8
Wis 8

Starting class: Barbarian
2nd level Sorcerer

Doing straight point buy, I would probably do it differently.

At the end, I would be aiming for something like:
Barbarian 6 / Sorcerer 4 / Dragon Disciple 10

BAB +15/+10/+5
Fort +13 Ref +6 Will +12

Ability boosts from Dragon Disciple
Str +8 Con +2 Int +2 Cha +2
AC +3 Natural Armor -1 Size = +2

I haven't actually run this character, but I did a partial build at it looks interesting.
The Dragon Disciple doesn't make a very good spellcaster. It can do a descent job as a fighter with some minor magical powers.

Hmm, actually...I think if you could go something more like sorcerer/paladin/dragon disciple it might work better with some nice saves from the charisma bonus. Or bard for sorc would work too.

Ranger1/Sorcerer1/Fighter1/Paladin2/Dragon Disciple10/Duelist5

28 point buy

Str 14
Dex 14
Con 10
Int 14
Wis 10
Cha 14

Spells: True Strike, Shield

1) Ranger 1 Combat Reflexes (Track, Ambidexterity, TWF)
2) Sorcerer 1 (Familiar)
3) Paladin 1 EWP: Spiked Chain
4) Paladin 2
5) Fighter 1 Dodge
6) Dragon Disciple (Gold) Mobility
7) Dragon Disciple 2
8) Dragon Disciple 3
9) Dragon Disciple 4 Spring Attack
10) Dragon Disciple 5
11) Duelist 1
12) Duelist 2 Large and in Charge (if allowed)
13) Dragon Disciple 6
14) Dragon Disciple 7
15) Dragon Disciple 8 Hold the Line
16) Dragon Disciple 9
17) Dragon Disciple 10
18) Duelist 3 Flyby Attack (if allowed)

Spiked Chain is a one-handed piercing weapon to a Large character so you can use Precise Strike and also carry a mithral buckler of heavy fortification (if it can be found).

Sounds interesting, but can you get the required Knowledge Arcana (8) required for Dragon Disciple doing it that way?

Munchkins don't worry about little things like skill requirements.

A fun one that crossed my mind some time ago...

Human Paladin 9 / Sorcerer 1 / DragDisc (Gold) 10

For your Sorc spells, take True Strike and Feather Fall. (Why? Only Verbal components! Wear heavy armor to your heart's delight.)

Wands of Shield, Magic Missile, Expeditious Retreat, Jump and Spider Climb are all good investments.

I'd do Paladin6, then one level of Sorcerer, then 3 more Paladin levels, and finally 10 levels of Gold Dragon Disciple.

I could easily see a Gold Dragon Knight representing Pelor.

Yes. here is one way:

His 2nd level, he takes sorcerer, Knowledge Arcana is a class skill for sorcerer, and he puts his 5 skill poitns into Kn:Arcana. Then levels 3, 4 and 5 he puts one of his skill points into Kn:Arcana, brining it to 8 ranks at level 5.

Actually, at levels 3, 4, and 5 he puts two of his skill points into Kn:Arcana, brining it to 8 ranks at level 5.

Guy guys guys... he has 4 base classes, 2 PrCs, and 3 of the base classes are warriors.. who even cares if the rules allow it? Makes me sick just to look at it, and know he intends to actually play it.
