Making a knife fighter

Looking for a bit of help here....

Just about to kick off a new game, and I've got a character all rolled up. I'm aiming to make this guy an *effective* knife fighter, so the origingal plan wais for him to go for Invisible Blade as soon as practical.

Looking at things again, however, I'm noticing that the Dervish is also a really useful class for a character weilding two knives...but it lacks the sneak attack damage, and that seems to be what makes a knife fighter an effective option. It *does* let him make two attacks after moving, though, as well as having a nice variety of useful abilities for a lightly-armored fighter. Getting Spring Attack as a virtual feat seems quite attractive, for instance.

So I'm hoping for some suggestions on how best to make a knife fighter who's going to be combat-effective. I'm thinking of alternating levels of Swashbuckler (from Complete Warrior) and Rogue until 6th level or so, but haven't made a solid decision yet.

Character is Elven, level is 2nd, and stats are as follows:
STR: 18 CON: 14 DEX: 21 INT: 18 WIS: 10 CHR: 14

(Yes, these are terribly high stats. We rolled them in an interesting fashion; multiple 18s were pretty much a given. Looks to be a pretty high-powered game ahead of us....)

My only question is this:

How exactly did you manage to get a 21 by 2nd level? I understand having an 18, and getting a +2 from being an elf, but I'm afraid I don't see where that other +1 came from.

Does it really matter? IMC, chars get attribute increases every even and feats every odd level, so these stats would be possible by some weird houserules as well.

Go Swashbuckler, Rog, Fighter and take Master Thrower, someone just posted how to throw more than 10 daggers at level 11... in the "Complete Warrior: Who's best" thread.

Funky houserules pretty much covers it; if your race gets a bonus in a particular stat, you can buy it up to 19.

And I'll take a look at that other thread, too; I'd been thnking more in terms of being Mr. Stabby-Stabby, but Throwy-Throwy works pretty well too. Harder to ge those sneak attacks though, innit?

I fell in love with the Invisible Blade. A truly fun class. Free action improved feint. If you build-up your character to weild two weapons, you might get 4 sneak attacks per round by level 10.
