Good point Kamard- Same thing for me too actually. I'm a skater snob though, so anyone wearing a shirt advertising for a skateboard company started after 1987 is automatically a "wanna be".
The Bay Area, and SoCal were where skating was re-born. I was lucky enough to be around some great skating personalities as a young man, although I was never coordinated enough to be on their level. We were all about the same age though ( I'm 33 now ). I was lucky enough to skate with, build ramps with, and videotape sessions for their sponsors for kids with initials like: SP (of P&P), SC, and yes, even TH.

Thanks for everyone's comments so far, this is really helpful. If they end up enjoying roleplaying enough to want to continue playing, I'll probably eventually donate my rule books to them later, and pick up the revised editions when available ( I have been looking for a good reason to justify buying these for myself! )
