Making D&D cool for skater teenagers - feedback requested

Good point Kamard- Same thing for me too actually. I'm a skater snob though, so anyone wearing a shirt advertising for a skateboard company started after 1987 is automatically a "wanna be".

The Bay Area, and SoCal were where skating was re-born. I was lucky enough to be around some great skating personalities as a young man, although I was never coordinated enough to be on their level. We were all about the same age though ( I'm 33 now ). I was lucky enough to skate with, build ramps with, and videotape sessions for their sponsors for kids with initials like: SP (of P&P), SC, and yes, even TH.

Thanks for everyone's comments so far, this is really helpful. If they end up enjoying roleplaying enough to want to continue playing, I'll probably eventually donate my rule books to them later, and pick up the revised editions when available ( I have been looking for a good reason to justify buying these for myself! )

Another Idea to get them hooked that has not been stated is bring alot of your stuff. I was a 12 - 13 year old skater back ing the day  and I was introduced to Vampire:TM by another skater. The reason that I really wanted to learn to play was an excuse to by all the neat supplemental stuff with the cool pictures. Now 12 years later I am doing the same thing (well I don't skate anymore). I liked the fact about the game that it does not end after 1 book, and that if you want to do something else there is usually another book for it. Also if you bring alot of your stuff with pass around the books with the best graphics. I would recomend CotC and d20 Modern. Those have the most varied pictures. This may sound like a stupid idea, but it will really work.

Also tell them about enworld (like has been stated about 100 times, but I got a reason). I say this for the simple fact that there are alot of FREE supplimentals that are often mentioned through enworld. Like the recent Terminator: Future Shock (or what ever it was) and the Evil Dead: Suck This! that was also released. THis way they can continue their hobby for free and keep updated. I remember that it was easier to get my parents to buy me something for an RPG than a new video game or rollerblade item.

Good luck and don't forget the pictures. That is also what got my wife hooked :D
