making your own RPG

Hi every one this is the second time Ive made this thread the first time I dont think I did it right or had it in the right place for that matter, but any way Iam making my own rpg board game it will pretty much be based on D&D but I need some help so any advise on anything you could think of would be a big help. so far
Ive decided that I want the game to be a little less diffucult to understand thanwhat D&D is but I also want the players to be challaged all at the same time Ive have also deciced that I will
use the new D&D minuters for my hero and monster peices I was
on wizards of the coast and found some cool downloads on how
to fold paper and make it look like castles, farms, and churches so that s how I think Iam going to do my board but thats about all I
got so far so any advise, tip, hints, or anything like that will help
well thanks for your time and hope to talk to you again soon.

Well basically you just asked other people to create your board game, while you fold paper. I would like to help you, I am interested in all types of game design, but you will have to be a little more specific. Tell us what you want help with? Will the game involve rolling dice and moving spaces, or will the boiard just be a grid for movement? Do you want a true RPG or a small scale wargame? If you can give some more info I will try and help, otherwise i have no idea what to tell you.

sorry

All right I get your drift I guess I could have added a little more info, what I reallly nead help on are my character sheets, on them Ill add your basic stuff hit points, experince points, magic points, the spells and skills that character can use. Iam gonna
have them be able to learn diffrent languages but I dont want to
add to many as to make the player confused [cause the people Ill
be playing with arnt your average D&D players] on top of that the
characters will have a minum of spaces they can move on the board and that will increase with there level. What else do you
think I can add to my character sheets that will make the game fun but not to confusing for the player? any ideas or just a little advise to get me going would be of great help.

There is a D&D board game supposedly being published later this year and that might be your answer.

Alternatively, you might want to buy something like the re-released Talisman which I recently spotted at a store here in Australia.

Making your own game is time consuming and difficult, especially as you have to then teach others how to play it and they can't just buy their own PHB to take home. I also notice that you can't spell or use paragraphs so that may make it more difficult to put together rules that others can read.

Cheers

heroQuest

I don't know if they still make it, but the game "HeroQuest" (a D&D-like board game) is VERY simple compared to D&D, is made up entirely of dungeon crawls, and had a set of tiles that the DM set down on the board to represent furniture, traps, doors, etc.

It had a LARGE set of miniatures that came with it (lots of orcs and goblins) all in plastic--I still have several that I painted to use for my current DnD game.

You rolled 1D6 to see how many spaces you went every turn, and for combat, each character had a certain number of attack and/or defense dice. Attack dice had swords for success, and skulls for failure. Defense dice were shields and skulls.

There were no character sheets, just stat cards that came with the four heroes (a wizard, a dwarf, a barbarian, and an elf) detailing their abilities.

Spells and treasure were all based on randomly-drawn cards from either the deck of treasure or the deck of magic...if you can find it, I really think this game would be exactly what you want.

I have NO idea who made the game, but it used to be common at Targets and Walmarts.

It's the game that originally got me into D&D. :D

Good luck!

mageknight dungeons

The new "mageknight dungeons" game might also serve your purposes well--all the stats are right on the base of the miniatures, and I'm under the impression (never having played it) that the rules are all pretty simple. MageKnight minis are of a similar size and quality to the new D&D minis, and are already available.

bear in mind, I probbaly wouldn't recommend the game for adults...but it IS a lot simpler than regular D&D.

Not sure if I count on this or not...as a gamer, I'm not sure 39 years old is enough to be an adult.

But MageKnight Dngeons are fun for one-off games when you just want to blow off a little steam. It's not serious role-playing and we tend to go everyone-for-himself (ie, we attack eachother as often as the monsters).
