Malice of the Medusa (pt-1) [Manzanita judging]

Viktor listened to the story, and to the other man's reply, and considered a moment before replying.

"Do you think we will even get paid if we simply turn back now? I'm not particularly fond of being someone's bounty-hunter if the bounty is an innocent man... but doubtless he's safer with us than alone?"

Reis frowns slightly, unconsciously tapping his fingers on the table while he thinks. "You're probably right, Amik won't pay us if we return now. But he won't if we return later and without Aedan, either. And I'm not sure he would be safer with us - from what we've heard, it sounds like someone in the company wants him dead, and that person could be using us to find him."

Reis sighs, clearly indicating dislike of the whole situation, before turning to the cleric with another thought.

"Brother Darile, I believe you met Aedan, at least for a short while. As I'm sure you've gathered from our conversation, we were indeed hired by the Detirman Company to find him, but we do not exactly work for them, and we do not wish to harm the man. Did it seem to you when he left that he might welcome aid, or did he think he would be safer if he left secretly and on his own?"

Dane listened to the words carefully letting them roll through his mind. "I have no plans to go back to that place for payment. They're money is of a tainted kind." He paused thinking of the destruction he would like to cause to those individuals.

"However," he continued. "To walk away now seems folly. There are unnatural beasts on the loose and their will be innocent casualties. We need to find this man to see what he knows, and how we can stop these events."

Midias

"Even if there isn't everything as it seems, we still have to find Aeden to protect him fromsuffering suffer the fate of the poor servant."
Midias reminds the others.

Brother Darile looks to everyone in turn as if judging each mans worth. He looks relieved when he tells you all the following. "Truly I wish to believe you can help poor Aedan, but I do not know where he is. He said to me that he wanted to get out of the hospice but he knew the company men were watching so he could just not leave. But he must have found a way out we have searched everywhere and he is not here. So as to how he got out unseen I am at a loss, and where he is now I am sorry I do not know that either or I would tell you." The cleric says bowing his head.

Reis listens to the argument going back and forth, shrugs, and turns to the others. "I think the cleric said it well. If Aedan has escaped thoroughly enough that nobody can figure out where he is, he is no doubt safer on his own. Remember, he claims somebody in the company would seek his death, and somebody in the company has sent us to find him. Is it not likely that we would bring the danger with us were we to look for him?"

"Besides," he adds, addressing Midias, "what exactly would you do to stop him from bursting into flame like the poor servant you mentioned? Perhaps you cleric types know something that would help. I would be able to do nothing but watch."

He sighs. "I am as loath as you to leave a job half done, but I cannot see what good we can do here. Either way, we should decide our course quickly."

"Yes it is getting late. I am sorry we have nowhere here for you to stay but the inn across the way should have space." Brother Darile says.

"But before you go, why were you sent by this company to find Aedan? They surely didn't ask you to find him so they could kill him." he asks the group.

Midias

"They said they need him to find the location on a magic item, to battle a medusa."
Midias answers truthfully.

Dane offers Midias a look of disbelief. I will never understand some members of the faith. He manages to refrain from shaking his head.

"But who knows how much truth there are to these things. You are right, it is late. Let us to the Inn, and we can choose our own paths in the morning."
