D&D 5E (2024) Man I hate the organization of the 2024 Monster Manual

You could always buy the monster cards. You could then put them in ANY order you like!!!

Those are for the 14 Monster Manual.

I do wish those cards were all the same size (3" x 5" would have been my preference). That would have made it a lot easier to organize and store.

I have the 2014 monster cards and thought they were great until I realized that they didn't include any of the beasts or NPCs.

I did just realize that they're an alternative that I can sort and hand to my kids after pulling out all the yucky stuff that they are not ready to see (devils, demons, succubi, some of the grosser looking enemies).

There is a deck with NPCs and beasts too.

this is a strange statement as every single creature in the MM is fictitious, even the ones with real world parallels.
Whether a Dryad is a (Greek) Celestial or a (British) Fey is a design decision, relating to the multiverse.

and Displacer beast is a good example of ambiguity - is it a Beast? a Monstrosity? an Abberation? Fey?
The Displacer Beast derives from a scifi creature called a "coeurl" invented by AE van Vogt. It could have been an extraterrestrial Beast, albeit intelligent. But the decision of D&D to include it among the various "magical"/"fairie" creatures makes enough sense. That decision implies Fey setting assumptions relating to the multiversal planes of existence.

having Humanoids split across Fey, Fiend, Construct and Ooze doesnt help either
To the degree that Humanoid stats are determined by "profession", it helps for them to all be in the same location. In that sense, the Humanoid type trumps the other types for the purpose of organization.

Essentially, you are creating your setting, by choosing which monsters are present. Monster cards make this easy.

Here too, selling each creature type as a separate "deck" helps too. For this setting, buy the Beast deck, the Humanoid deck, but leave out the Fiend deck.

When thinking about creature types, I would add the Ethereal type and the Astral type.

The Astral is for creatures of the Astral Plane that arent especially identical with ethical alignments. The "Neutrals" (LN, TN, CN) being not really Celestial (nor Construct nor Aberration) would like wise be Astral. These Neutrals are especially part of the production of matter which can be used for either Good or Evil.

Now that Fey is a "material" plane, albeit an "alternate" one, the Ethereal is back to being its own distinctive identity, that is part of the Material Plane but is immaterial. Alternatively, where ether is the "fifth element", the Ethereal creatures could reclassify as the Elemental type.

I've gone back to using the 3E Outsider to handle anything that isn't elemental, fiend or directly celestial. That covers ethereal, astral, slaad from limbo, modrons from Nirvana, etc. Subtypes can be used to differientiate what plane they are from. So, for example a Blue Slaad would be Outsider (Limbo, Slaad), while a Modron would be Outsider (Mechanus, Modron). Great Old Ones get to be Outsider (Far Realm).
