I find Map Folio I to be one of the more interesting products WotC have put out this year. I'm actually quite happy with it - several of the maps have given me ideas for adventures, and they also are props I can hand out to the players.

I probably would have liked a few more 'classical' dungeon maps, but hopefully II will be of that sort.

So, did you get it? Will you get it? Will you avoid it?

Cheers!

OK, I voted "Yes / happy" but I would not say I'm ecstatic.

When I purchased Map Folio I, it was shrink-wrapped. The clerk wanted to check it out, so I said sure while I looked through the store. When I got it back, the maps were out of order. No big deal, but it was kind of pain to put them back in order. I wish they were numbered in some fashion.

The maps themselves are nice, but like MerricB I would have liked a little more "classic dungeon" map. Some of the maps were really just pretty pictures with about 10% map. While I like pretty pictures, I prefer 90% map and only 10% pretty picture.

I really liked the creativity (the "worm" map is really neat, for example).

I was really excited about this product, but since I bought it I haven't looked at it. Hmmmm....can I change my vote? ;)

I like them. 32 maps printed out in full color on hi gloss paper for $10.00. cheaper than I can print them out for on my home color printer. a great deal.

Edit: according to consumer reports a full color high gloss page, one sided, printed on your home printer costs $.43 each. WOTC is finally saving me money! It would cost me $13.76 to print these out myself. SSHHH! Don't tell WOTC they are giving us a good deal!

Can't think of a single reason why I would pick it up.

I can download any of the maps in this set for free from the WotC site. Having looked over a number of those maps, I would gleefully go to the various Harn sites instead, for better maps.

But in the end, why bother to pay for something that is being given away for nothing?

I had catagrophy, the collection of maps I think Green Ronin put out last year and I just wasn't using it so I gave it away. And they were gorgious maps, it was a great source of maps. I just had no need. So, when this weas announced I knew two things: first it wasn't going to be as good as the other one I gave away, and second I just don't have needs for maps.

re

At first I was interested in picking this product up, but once you told me it was filled with maps from the Map-a-week column on on the WotC site my interest was killed. I will just peruse the maps on the WotC site if I am looking for a map for an adventure. No need to buy the book, not enough value and I can obtain equivalent maps at a variety of places online including the WotC site itself.

About the only reason that I would pay for a folio of maps would be if they were large enough to be used as is for minatures. I do most of my stuff now on a battlemat, and I would have to re-draw them anyway.

I don't need pretty maps, but I would like them to be able to show to my players.

I usually search for free maps on the web, or use the ones included in published adventures, but often I even game without any map and I just draw it in real time.

It supprises me that people will pay for stuff like this. I have used a couple of the web based maps for some adventures I have put together, but personally I would not part with hard earned cash for generic maps.

Different strokes I guess.
