Actually, I got this because I was hoping it would be a bit like the old 2nd edition map folios they did (or even the 1st edition "Encounter books"), simple story seeds could have been printed on the back sides of each map, some ideas for jumpstarting a weary brain-dead DM with no time to prepare for the evening's session. No such luck, but they are still nice, pretty maps.

I'm kinda sad that it's just the maps from the web site - I was hoping it would be what you described or maybe with a couple of extras, like some neat player handouts like they used to do in Dragon a little while back. Maybe they'll do something like this in later editions?

I voted 'No', but that has more to do with the fact that I enjoy making my own maps than anything against the maps themselves.

A lot of people do not download maps, and I can see where javing them bundled would attract those without internet access, or even those wh do but wand a bound version. And the price is pretty reasonable. I am hoping this sells well enough that WotC continues with the 'Map a Week'. (I don't use them, but I do mine them for ideas.)

The Auld Grump

*EDIT* Okay, I lied, going back over some of the stuff I did shortly after D&D 3.0 came out I find that I have in fact used some of the very earliest Map a Week maps.

Just FYI, the Map Folio is not bound. It's a flimsy folder, with each map on a separate sheet of paper.

Part of the problem is that these weren't particularly good maps even when they were released for free on the WotC site. Compare them to the ones produced by Ed Bourelle in a range of products: Ed's I would buy in a heartbeat... or in August when Green Ronin releases a book of them.

No

I didn't get the map folio for a number of reasons, the simplest being that I always have been and always will be a "self-making" DM. Operating within the constrains of a prepublished adventure always chafes at my creativity. While I have downloaded one or two maps online, I have yet to put them to use, even in a random encounter. I have a manilla folder labeled "my @$$," and whenever I need something, I reach in and pull something out.
