OK So I will probably be buying some form of mapping software soon and wanted to know pwople's opinions. I am currently looking at Dunjini(sp) and Campaign Carto. Was wondering about people's experiences with these software.

Hey Chris, how goes? Depends on what your looking for. If you want world type maps, go with CC. If you want maps for dungeons, go with Dundjinni.

I like Campaign Cartographer. Just make sure you don't try to learn by playing with it; you really need to go through the tutorials in the manual.

They're such different products that they're hard to compare. You really have to decide what it is you want to map then chose the product.

I like the look of Dundjinni maps for dungeons and buildings, but not for wilderness. I like CC2Pro because of its compatibility with FractalTerrains and its ability to accurately preserve scale.

You also have other choices: AutoRealm is free, NBOS Mapper is very good and there are one to two others. Play around with the demos and find which one is best for your needs.

They are different, as others have said. Both also are difficult to learn. I would suggest that if you do go with Dunjinni, make sure that you get the Campaign pack add-on. It helps with more world building type stuff, which is lacking in the product IMO. They are both cool though.

I highly recommned CC Pro (the latest iteration of Campaign Cartographer). While CC Pro is oriented towards overland maps it includes several catalogs that allow you to do basic city and dungeon maps as well. It has dedicated add-ons for those map types as well which are superb. Be warned that CC Pro has a steep learning curve and like EternalKnight said you really need to do the tutorials first.

I suggest checking out the CC2-l mailing list on Yahoo if you want more information. It is one of the most informative and active lists I have ever subscribed to.

Also ProFantasy's customer service is simply unbeleivably good.

I'm glad you experience in this regard has been better than mine - I've e-mailed them with questions twice and never received a response.

For a free product Autorealm is pretty good.
