Maps/Lands from previous adventures

I'd imagine that generally, a dungeon, town or land would still remain, even after an adventure has been completed, unless it was somehow destroyed in some catastrophy. And even then, ruins could still remain, as they would in real life.

In the world(s) of DnD, do you recycle your maps for other future adventures, or would you discard them, as you might a deceased character?

I have to admit, I tend not to reuse maps. Then again, I rarely, if ever, reuse campaign settings either, so, there isn't really any need. I'll reuse maps for new locations sometimes - a campsite battlemap is a campsite battlemap pretty much regardless of any other considerations.

But, I think that your idea only really applies if people stick to the same campaign world for campaign after campaign.

Well, I tend to not discard anything. Granted I may not ever use the map again, but I don't discard it. [I don't discard old characters either... I've still got my Swordsage from Age of Worms campaign sitting in a binder. :)] A few I've reused, but not many. Usually things like buildings or other generic locations, but never anything else.

I guess I have enough maps saved from numerous sources and plenty that I've created [some I've never even used] that it would be hard for me to use an old one when I have so many new options to choose from.

I don't tend to reuse in-world locations like dungeons much within the same campaign. Not much "Return to Dungeon X" type play. I'll certainly run an adventure multiple times in different campaigns/settings; I must have run The Shrine of Kollchap a dozen times, all in different worlds.

I certainly reuse my Paizo flipmats as much as possible; at £10 each I have a few hundred quid invested in them and I want my money's worth! :)

I reuse maps when a group of pcs revisits the location.

I'll sometimes use pre-printed, fairly generic battlemaps again; the wooded track map in Keep on the Shadowfell is a good example.

If pressed for time or if an old map layout fits what I want, I'll use it.

I tend not to reuse things but I still have a good deal of my campaign notes sitting in lab notebooks.
