Regarding the name changes: Does anyone know if Marketing's management has changed at WotC recently? Working in a corporation, from experience "change for change's sake" is the first thing a new manager will engage in. ;)

G'day, Henry!

We've had word on this from Andy Collins:

Maelstrom was changed to Stormwrack because of possible confusion with the other Maelstrom RPG. Andy's words: "My secondhand understanding is that the name was changed due to another game or game product of some sort with that name already existing, and Wizards not being interested in getting into a potential fight over it. Unfortunately (as sometimes occurs in such things), that discovery wasn't made in time to fix the catalog."

Battlefield Adventures was changed to Heroes of Battle because distributors didn't want to get it. :(

In Andy's words: "Turns out when you say Battlefield Adventures to a typical distributor or retailer, they reply, "No thanks, we don't sell many adventures.""

Cheers!

To me, that's not bad for Heroes of Battle, but bad for adventures...just more proof that they don't sell as well as most of us would love them to.
Yeah. Though admittedly I murder the adventures I get, rip out the parts I like, add some twisted ideas of my own, and then animate the resulting monstrosity. At best. I'm very, very unlikely to run an adventure I didn't either write or (generally heavily) modify to suit my needs. Except as a one-shot, maybe.
