[March] What are you watching?

Almost halfway through Deep Space Nine Season 1. Definitely the best of the Treks.

How do you like the early episodes? I recall that they drove me away from the show. I'm wondering if I just missed something back then, because DS9 went on to become my favorite SF show {I'm sorry JMS, I really am, its so close}.

Me too. I could not stand the first season, and only came back a couple of years later.

Though I will probably have to buy the first season dvd's because I am a geek.

I finally got around to watching Donnie Darko (technically I saw it last month, but I'm not digging up the old thread)...

Wonderful film, though I need to watch it again with the writer's/director's commetary to truly absorb it.

I just finished watching The Complete Run of the 'Thin Blue
Line'
on DVD (two series, fourteen episodes all in all).

Written by Ben Elton (The Young Ones) and starring Rowan
Atkinsson it got 2/3 of the genius that gave us 'Blackadder' and
'Mr. Bean'. Still, that last third was obviously missing as the only
thing keeping the first series from a waste of my time was Rowan
Atkinsson, who dominates the screen and steals every moment.
Ok, I'm being a bit harsh, but I expected better from so clever
minds.

But I'm very glad I kept on watching because the second series is
absolutely hillarious. The other characters that were only fodder for
Atkinsson's comments and sexual innuendo are given bigger parts
which in return strengthened Atkinsson's role. I especially enjoyed
the character of Inspector Grim.

So, all in all: Thumbs up!

Oh and I also saw the original 1950 version of 'Father of the
Bride
'. Very funny despite it's age (comedies have a tendancy to
age the worst, well, and teen flicks). Stacey Keach is great as
Stanley Banks and it's always fun to see a young, firm, non-drunk
Liz Taylor. Still, liked the Steve Martin version better, but that's of
course the one I grew up with (plus being a big Steve Martin fan).

Here's a review:

In a nutshell, the reviewer felt that hindsight really added to the episodes... Felt that it was really enjoyable to see how firm a hand the makers/actors had from the start in terms of the characters and their development.

I'll buy it too... I can wait on the compelling stories, right now I find that I miss spending time with those characters...

Just watched Murnau's Nosferatu. Quite an amazing piece of filmmaking. The guy playing Nosferatu really has presence. The Nosferatu tour on the disc was quite interesting too.

I finally got Buffy season 3 (stupid blockbuster idiots.). Ripped thru it in three days (all after work...)

Saw the Ring, thought it was way cool, not particularly scary tho.

Evil Dead and Dawn of the Dead to educate my son on horror films. Next up is Army of Darkness.

Just saw a pretty cool special on catapults. It could have been a bit better (the voice over guy was "adding drama" and that got old fast), but it was still neat.

You mean that catapult show on TLC where those guys tried to make that huge Roman catapult?

That catapult was a POS. :)

The Shield, Alias, Stargate SG-1. If I had to pick just one, it would have to be The Shield. Best. Show. Ever.

In the theaters, I've seen Tears of the Sun, which was alright. The Navy SEALs kick some ass, Bruce Willis does a good job playing Bruce Willis, but it's nothing special.

I also saw the Life of David Gale, which SUCKS! Anyone with the capacity to fog up a mirror should be able to predict the ending of the poorly shot, poorly scripted, poorly acted (especially by Winslet) piece of refuse. The random spinning with words flashing pissed me off especially.

I'm going to see The Hunted with Benicio del Toro sometime this weekend. God I hope this movie is as cool as the previews have made it out to be. Throwing knives are possibly the coolest things on Earth.

I've also seen the Animatrix shorts. I normally don't like anime, but those are damn cool.
