Marilith´s CR

Marilith´s CR

I think it was discurssed before, but you don´t think that the mariliths CR is very high? the planetar is cr 16 and is much more powerfull (better in melee AND better spell caster). The ultroloth in the manual of the planes is the worst, looks like a CR 10 monster to me...

Any well prepared level 10 group can kill a marilith, or at least make then teleport to save her life.

Didn't Ultroloths have a spellcasting ability of some level? If they do, the CR should rarely be less than that level. (Because wizard level N = CR N, and Loths are more badd-ass than wizards)

No, they do not have spellcasting ability beyond a number (slim) of spell-like abilities. They really lamed them out in 3ed. You're better off using the Creature Catalogue stuff.... assuming you can still find it.

Maybe they were assuming the creatures would be classed for a "real" encounter, like phaerimm and sharn (I refuse to use the stupid plural). Like Marilith Ftr4/Sor7 or Ultroloth Wiz17, or whatever. I know that doesn't solve the CR problem, but it might explain why they're so weak...

Hi all! :)

Try:

Marilith CR14
Planetar CR20
Ultroloth CR13

Hi Upper_Krust!

Did you calculate these just for this thread, or do you have a long list of calculated CR's?

If the latter, I imagine you can guess what my next question will be. :) ;) :D

I second that. The Creature Catalogue version of the Ultroloth is much more powerful. Rather in line with the 2E Ultroloth.

Hi there! :)

I wrote an article for Asgard magazine (Issue #6) about Challenge Ratings. You can find it here:

http://www.d20reviews.com/Natural20/asgard.html

In there, I present a simple table for determining ECL. Thats how I arrived at the above figures.

Incidently there have been a few updates to the system since then, though mostly concerning how to rate Divinity.
