Pathfinder 1E Marriage Issue (Aka Wife from Cheliax)

Drake Cross

First Post
So recently in the Kingmaker module I'm in for Pathfinder, our GM decided to throw in a little surprise for my character. We had just finished the first book of the module and started kingdom building. Since my character had the highest charisma, I am the best suited to be king, however also being a noble I'm expected to have a queen as well. Being a gnome bard...I'm sort of limited on choices so the GM has my character's grandfather appear and tell him he's arranging a gnome noble from another nation to come and possibly become my queen, along with created more alliances.

However, after coming back from exploration with my party it turns out the gnome noble is here...with a black knight. (Idk what class he is but we call him Sir Dread since he yells out law all the time XD) Anyway it turns out he's her bodyguard and she's from the nation of Cheliax...the country that practices Devil dealing and is known for tyranny. Despite this my character is curious, neing a bard and thus open to other art and cultures. She is also a bard and thus has same interests as me...just seeming to think summoning devils and such a common thing.

Anyway the issue is that I don't know her alignment, but I'm guessing between lawful evil, chaotic neutral or lawful neutral. The problem is half of my party are against her despite how formal and polite she is. So the issue is should I trust her or not and if it is possible to change her ways even slightly since I don't plan to deal with devils in my kingdom.

First: She's a gnome. You can't trust gnomes.
Second: she's a bard, never trust a bard.
Third: she's a noble, never trust rich people.
Fourth: she's a woman, can't trust a woman.(don't hit me, I'm joking....you all know that men are really the untrustworthy ones!)

The fact that she comes from a nation that's a-okay with devil dealing really isn't the main issue here.

Don't trust her, but don't toss her to the winds. Examine the political standing between your kingdom and hers, and her kingdom with others. Then marry her to your second-cousin who who decided to give an impressive title; like: "Knight Captain Commander", so he basically gets a shiny suit of armor and rides around on a pretty horse all day looking impressive(but being otherwise, totally useless).

Find the princess of the nation that likes you the least, marry her. It helps if said nation is poor, polymorph her into a gnome is if helps.

first check the rules of succession in your country. Can it have a queen as a ruler, or are only kings allowed? Is regency hereditary? If so... is it usual or known for adopted children to become king? (the romans did this).

If your queen can't become a ruler, you'll be safer from assassinations from her side. Until you get her pregnant. As for the bodyguard... separate him from the queen by promoting him to, say, commander of YOUR personal bodyguard.

"keep your friends close, but your enemies closer".

I don't see the issue.

Assuming that she's a Devil worshipper just because she's from Cheliax is no more silly than assuming someone is any religion based on their country of origin.

Assuming she IS a Devil worshipper, she is still only a 'trophy wife'. As King, you make all the rules and decisions.

Assuming her alignment IS Evil, that doesn't make her a bad person. And none of the alignments you mentioned should give you any worry.

What you need to worry about is how and why your grandfather chose this person. You're a Bard. Start asking around NOW. Get your spell-casters on Divinations. And find some good lawyers.

History is replete with politically convenient, but adversarial marriages. These marriages, and the children they produce have been the source of many conflicts. Anglicans marrying Catholics, Romans marrying Huns, etc. Then you start considering succession rights under primogeniture, and you have intrigues embroiling two entire nations, from the kings down to the scullery maids.

Actually, I kind of envy you. This sort of game will have fantastic tension and opportunity for intrigue.

She's probably lying. Gnomes don't rule in Cheliax. It is the black knight that you need to be worried about as he is probably a Hellknight. You need to find out what order he is from and what his agenda is.

Sounds like a rather trite set-up.

Wife to be is a noble from a place that trucks with evil and is, therefore, presumably evil herself. Arranged marriage. Wife to be comes complete with a black-armoured 'protector.'

Methinks player's character will be found floating face down in the moat, about 3 days after he attains rulership.
