"Book provides new archetypal builds for the fighter, ranger, rogue, and warlord classes, including new character powers, feats, paragon paths and epic destinies."

So no new classes... but, archetypal builds.

Are these the same thing as the Rogue's "Artful Dodger" and "Brutal Scoundrel" Rogue Tactics class feature? So new options like "Resourceful Investigator" or something.

Or are these in reference to the two builds: "Brawny Rogue" and "Trickster Rogue"?

I would prefer the former over the latter because I wouldn't buy a book with just a bunch of "take these feats and then you can call yourself a "Brawny Rogue" or "Trickster Rogue".

Yeah, but if it included both class features and feats that you can mix and match as you choose, that's the best of both worlds. You get new class builds like Brawny, but you also just get more options.

I would think thats the idea: new tactics, feats, and powers that can support new builds but also be used with builds and tactics in the PHB. Or at least I would hope so.

Also, I am kind of glad there are not new classes. I don't mind a few, but would like to avoid the "class bloat" we saw in 3.5.

They're using "build" to refer to sets of suggested feats, skills, and class features, such as the examples "Brawny Rogue" and "Trickster Rogue". I don't see any reason they would suddenly use it to mean something else.

So, the book will introduce new powers, feats, paragon paths, and epic destinies (which any character of the appropriate class can take), and suggested builds that use those new features to create archetypical characters.

And here i was, hoping that the monk would show up in the martial power book. :(

Monk will probably be a hybrid martial psionic class. Maybe even taking over the role of pyshic warrior?

I personally hope that the base class bloat of 3.X as well as the PrC/paragon path bloat will not arise too quickly. Those books became nothing more than incentives for players in my old group to whine and switch characters to the next best build. The fact that I didn't like this revolving door and tried to maintain consistency led to a breakdown of that group.

Perhaps as a build for the fighter?

Cheers, LT.

I kind of doubt it considering how every class is getting front loaded with a bunch of abilities that get further enhanced by powers. Getting heavy armor proficiency and a choice between sword+board or THF doesnt really mesh with archetypal DnD monk.

Right. And they've also promised to reproduce most classes in 4E. But I could see a rogue build "Unarmed Brawler" or something like that. Would fit the monk image of a fast, unarmed striker. Though probably not his mystical powers.

Cheers, LT.

If the Rogue is any indication, each build gets its own unique tactic. So that would make the answer "Yes, on both counts."
