Trailer Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* | D23 Brazil Special Look

European Russia is the much smaller part of Russia compared to the Asian part of Russia, so I just assume references to size are specifically about the European part of Russia. Just because someone can travel from Moscow to the Pacific Ocean without leaving the country does not mean western Russians think about that.

You met many Russians? They are generally very patriotic, and one of the things they are patriotic about is how big their country is.

(I’ve had quite a lot of contact with Russians, first as an astrophysicist, and later teaching at an international school).

Out of curiosity, I just did a quick Google Maps search. It takes twice as long to drive from Toronto to Thunder Bay, all within the Province of Ontario, as it does to get from St. Petersburg to Moscow. Ottawa to Kenora is even further. (almost 3x)

Yeah, I liked She-Hulk. I think a lot of people who were less than happy with it expected a more "typical" Marvel show rather than the sit-com-like show we got. Having read and loved the Dan Slott run on She-Hulk, I got pretty much exactly what I expected and it was right up my alley. Would I want every Marvel show on D+ to be like that? No, but one of them is just fine.

I had mixed feelings, but I do agree a lot of complaints there can be read as "Its too much like the comic."

The only other real critiques I have of it are:

A) It was dumb to move the "backstory" episode to the front, because it was one of the weakest episodes and originally kind of in the middle of the season, where it would have worked better. Also the CGI was extra-bad that episode because it was unfinished due it being moved at short notice, and this had knock-on effects that hurt the CGI on some other episodes.
Huh. I liked having the origin episode up front. I generally haven't liked it on other Marvel shows when they do one or two flashback episodes mid-season to show how Our Hero got their mojo – to me, that tends to ruin the flow. That said, I can appreciate wanting to get into the meat right away (particularly with the ridiculously short seasons we see today), but you can do that by only providing an abbreviated origin story that could easily fit within a minute-long intro. "Bitten by a radioactive spider, teen Peter Parker developed a variety of arachnid powers (montage of climbing walls, dodging unseen things, super-strength, webs). After his inaction allowed a robber to escape only to later murder his beloved Uncle Ben, he swore to fight crime as... The Amazing Spider-Man!"
B) Jennifer comes across as an absolutely freakin' awful lawyer, because they repeatedly show her just doing incredibly dumb stuff that even a mildly competent trainee wouldn't screw up, both in preparing for cases and in court. Like, it's a TV show, you expect the court/law to operate on somewhat fantastical principles, and that was also the case, but why make her look like such an idiot? The show seems to be trying to make out that the law firm is like, being sooooo unfair to her, but it also insists on portraying her as basically incompetent as a lawyer. You can't have it both ways, show! Matt Murdoch isn't treated this way!
Yeah, that's a bit of a shame. Comics-Jen is, for the most part, a frickin' great lawyer. I believe she's usually portrayed as better than Matt, but that could be bias because she does most of her lawyering for fancy law firms and/or superheroes, while Matt is more often doing small-time work for poor folks in Hell's Kitchen until something big lands in his lap. Of course, over 50+ years of comic book history that has varied, but I feel that's where they're centered.

I'm unsurprised that just mentioning She-Hulk online would result in at least a couple of guys needing to list everything they didn't like about the show. Par for the course and all that.

But, the idea that no Russian would ever use the word 'big' to describe America is still baffling to me.
America being big, only goes to emphasise that Russia is HUGE.

Well so do we, but driving is cheaper ;)

And, depending on starting and ending location, faster unless you have a good coast to coast system. I considered taking a train out to meet my wife physically the first time I did (the distance was Los Angeles, CA to Austen, TX) because, being both acrophobic and claustrophobic, flying is not my favorite thing, and it just wasn't practical even though there are routes that would work; even driving would have been faster, had I a car at that time which I thought was going to tolerate the trip well.
