Mass Combat System and Program

Here are some links I found over at the WotC boards and thought should be posted here too. It's a mass combat system and a computer program to automate it. It all decided by a couple d20 rolls and modifers. It's a nice balance of details and abstract and takes calvary, archery, and magic into account among other modifers. The combat example is a good demostration of how to use the system to describe a battle.

I'm thinking of using it in my Planescape campaign for some Blood War battles and when my PCs go Warlord on me ( I know they will, destructive they are...).

The program has the nice feature of actually being able to save armies for later use. It comes with two example armies to play around with. The system itself has some new feats and skills that you can use too. Worth checking out.

Farland System

I like it, it sure can make things easier than just... guestimating.... But I do wish one thing were changed... I would like to see that each unit type would be able to be modified... (individual modifiers per unit type)

For example, If I have 1000 militia and 100 elite cavalry... I would like to modify each alone.... other than that, not too bad.

Hey guys, thanks for the free publicity! Glad you like my system.

I would like to see that each unit type would be able to be modified... (individual modifiers per unit type)

For example, If I have 1000 militia and 100 elite cavalry... I would like to modify each alone.... other than that, not too bad.

Could you explain a little more what you mean? Because right now the system is designed to handle what I take to be your concern one of two ways:

1. Average out the factors for the two

2. Decide what oppoents each group will be fighting and further break down the army into just what you want to modify. That way you can be as detailed as you want.

Further Clarifacation....

I would like to see each unit to have individual modifacations.... for example...

#1 unit is "Elite Cavalry" 100 troops.... I could adjust the AC, magic, equipmnt and misc. modifiers for them...

#2 unit is "mob of militia" ... I can adjust the modifiers for thme as above...

Which I would think would create a more diverse type of army.... The 100 elite cav would be more powerful and probably suffer less losses than the 1000 mob.....

I hope this is more clear for you..... Cool set up though, I hope you dont think I am bagging on it....

No, I don't think you are. BUt the system is designed to do this. YOu figure the ACs and other mods seperately for each unti then you average them to get the army's over-all AC, etc.

Hmmm....

This is why I think each unit should have its own set of modifiers applied to them....

I have two units on a battlefield opposing an enemy army.
Unit one is an elite cavalry unit. 100 men, high level (10-15), alot of magic and potentcy among them. Very well organized and with great leaders.

The second unit is a mob of 1000 untrained militia, hastily organized in defense of a town or etc...

I think that the Cavalry and mob should be statted differently for the same army. If we average it out... the overall army is very weak... but with different statting allowed; the cavalry becomes a havoc creating machine.... less casualties taken by them, they dole out more losses and become more powerful than the mob.

That is just my thought on the program. Are you the programmer? If so ty to tweak it and just check it out. Like I said before, I do like it... just my own thoughts on it!:)
