Mass Effect 3 (no spoilers)

No thread on this, huh?

It's a great game that serves up a lovely swan song for many heroes. I enjoy both the story and the combat. Haven't finished it yet, so it's been hard to dodge spoilers. Apparently, the ending is of a controversial nature. I hope I don't find out that you only get a good ending by playing the multiplayer game.

So far, my biggest disappointment is that the squad you wind up with doesn't feature the most interesting ME characters.

The highlight so far has been the vignettes you get with the team members, and that they aren't confined to a staic location on the ship for the entirety of the game.

Kind of torn about day-one DLC. On the one hand, I like DLC that it's available during the period in which I'm actually playing the game, but OTOH, it seems like a blatant bit of nickel-and-diming.

EDIT--Re-worded some comments that might be interpreted as "spoilery".

Great game, love it. I also haven't had a chance to finish it yet, but I really want to, to see what the hubbub is. Must have to do with sort of weird twist because it seems to be pretty straightforward-ly foreshadowed in a less subtle way than a sledgehammer to the forehead. That or something abrupt, I dunno, I've been staying away from spoilers, too.

And I read in a preview interview that you don't need to play MP to beat the Reapers, but ut really helps. If you're a single player completionist, though, you should be okay (they did say you have to close to 100% in single player for it to work out, though).

I am surprised I've heard nothing on the bugs though. That was the main complaint of Skyrim, and I saw nothing playing that that made me bat an eye. But between creepy head facings during the narrative cutscenes and getting trapped in the floor during my first MP mission, the bugs have been a lot more obvious to me in ME3. Not enough to be put off by the great game, though.

You guys really need a lesson in common sense and etiquette. You post "No spoilers" and then both of you include spoilers in your posts. If you had been waiting for years for a movie to come out and then some random came up to you and said, "That movie sucks, the ending is stupid!" wouldn't you consider that a spoiler?

Worse, the OP then spoils things further with such comments as, "So far, my biggest disappointment is that the game steers sharply away from reacquiring any of the Mass Effect 2 crew, as they actually had quite a bit more personality than the ME1 team (with the notable exception of Wrex)." And, "It's a great game that serves up a lovely swan song for many heroes."

Just... sigh.

When Bioware themselves are posting stuff about making a DLC that will fix the ending, the cat is pretty much out of the bag on the matter that there is some sort of issue with it..

No, I don't think that's a spoiler.

A spoiler is "Shepard is revealed to actually be a Reaper, sent back in time by himself and programmed to save humanity."

And if that actually is the ending, then I need to play the lottery.

I liked the game overall, though I was sorta disappointed in the character selection in 3, though admittedly I thought that 2 had maybe a few too many characters. But in 2, I tended to try out different people in different missions whereas in 1 and 3 I pretty much used the same people the entire game.

I do like the fact that you get to visit each of the previous characters throughout the game, but yeah there's one or two of them I would have liked to use again. [I missed the Dominate ability from 2]

I'm not sure how much the multiplayer impacted the actual game. I actually enjoyed the multiplayer at times and managed to keep myself right around the 90+ mark until I neared the end of the game to make sure I finished at 100%. Neat trying a bunch of different class abilities.

Although I'm not sure if I should be excited about this But I guess it can't really get much worse than the original ending, so if they do something like the rest of the series, should be awesome

Sad though that I didn't end up with my little white house, picket fence, dog and two kids with Specialist Traynor like we had talked about :(

Hrm, my period key stopped working

I did what now? Were my spoilers that there are bugs in the game? Sorry, I didn't realize you wanted to be surprised by that, lol. And I have no comment on the ending, as I have yet to witness it. I was throwing out guesses, like RW.

Also, I tried to stay completely away from any info about the game before it came out, demos, previews, everything, as much as possible. But nothing the OP posted would have been a surprise to me, unless I didn't have clue one about what ME is about.

Maybe I should have just posted "Cool game." But I guess that's a spoiler, too. :p
