I do the same thing (I use CCG boxes), but I have about 25 categories. (For example, I subdivide warriors into "Sword and Shield," "Two Weapon," "Two-Handed Weapon.") I own about 1500 D&D minis, so the categorization is necessary. Sometimes I still have trouble finding stuff.
