Massive Miniature Reorganization

Been a collector (but not really a painter) for years. The collection spans Reaper, Iron Wind, Ral Partha, Grenadier, Heritage, Rackham/Confrontation, War Gods, Games Workshop, and many others. Basically, if its good, its mine...except I never shelled out the money for Heritage's Great Dragon (ah, regrets...).

Mostly I use Chessex boxes, but my Dwarven Forge stuff is in a set of sliding drawer boxes I lined with a foam rubber (which takes FOREVER to cut).

I have my Chainmail minis sorted by army.
I have a box of plastic Battletech minis.
1 box of Superhero Minis.
1 box of Sci-fi minis.
1 Box Wizards/Clerics/Monks.
1 box Rogues/Bards
2-3 boxes of Warriors.
2 boxes of NPCs.
2 boxes of other support minis (familiars, tables, shelves, furntiture, etc).
1 box Undead
1 box evil humanoids
1 box random monsters (oozes, vermin, xorn, Djin, etc.)
3 boxes of large monsters
Dragons scattered hither, thither and yon.
And 1 box of Reaper Fantasy miniatures that have been made into a painted Chess set.

We have 9 cardboard boxes labeled as such...
I do the same thing (I use CCG boxes), but I have about 25 categories. (For example, I subdivide warriors into "Sword and Shield," "Two Weapon," "Two-Handed Weapon.") I own about 1500 D&D minis, so the categorization is necessary. Sometimes I still have trouble finding stuff. (I needed a Human Blackguard for my game today, and it took me forever to find one amongst all the other warrior types.)

I use stackable shoe boxes I got from Lakeland. I don't have to label them , as they are made of clear plastic.

I have the following boxes -

Big stuff (large minis)
Animals, plants and vermin
Humans with two handed weapons (including bows)
Human wizard and monk types
Other humans
Constructs and elementals
Orcs and half orcs
Goblinoids
Other humanoids
Outsiders
Elves and half elves
Dwarves, Halflings and Gnomes
Undead
Dragons and reptilian humanoids
Aberrations and other wierd stuff

However, some of the boxes are now very full (espcially dragons and outsiders) so I'll need to buy some more soon.

Did you actually go measure those boxes before posting? If so, then thats.....dedication.

When I got my case of Giants, I kept the case and eight boxes. The boxes fit perfectly in the bottom of the case (duh), and I just have eight "piles" of figs: humans, humanoids, undead, natural (including dires and fiendish animals and things like the treant), aberrations, outsiders, dragons, and "other" (including actual giants). I close the boxes and put things like initiative cards on top.

Something I consider everytime I go into a Hobby Lobby or a Home Depot are those vertical containers that have a variety of little, clear drawers. They're usually used to store beads, spools of thread, nails, screws, etc.

Anyone ever try anything like that? Successfully?

My DDM are sitting inside my Giants of Legend boosters.

Labels:
* Animals, Plants & Magical Beasts
* Constructs
* Undead
* Outsiders
* Elementals and more Outsiders
* Aberrations and Monstrous Humanoids
* Giants
* Humans
* Demi-humans
* Humanoids (everything else)

I also have a box with one of every PC-type mini in it, and a bag with my Huge minis in it.

(Did I miss any creature types? If so, they're probably in boxes of their own).

Before sessions of my games, I try to select the minis I will need and take only those ones along.

Cheers!
