1) Artificer ... Their real power lies in making the other party members more effective, which they do in spades.

He wants to munch out his character, and you're setting him up for a character that makes the rest of the party more effective? That does not match the archetype, sir!

:D

(The kalashtar cleric is an interesting idea, I have to say ...)

I'm not a good max/maxxer. I don't do mathematical analyses to figure out what will get me the best possible character. The linear variability of D&D can pretty much take care of built-in superiority right quick, anyway.

I also know that some think trying to min/max with a monk is a joke.

With those disclaimers, I found you can make a pretty sweet human monk/cleric combo in Eberron. Take the War domain with a deity/pantheon/philosophy that grants longsword as a favored weapon. You get Whirling Steel Strike by 3rd-level easily (with a total of seven feats, one taken by Monastic Training [cleric] if your DM requires it).

Where to take it from there depends on your desires. The fighter class and judicious feat allocation could certainly bring this character into a monster number of attacks and a very decent BAB.

My two coppers.

Find the most munchkining PRC you can in a official Wotc book. Ahh, the cleric/hospitler looks good. And play it. Convince your DM that it's a perfectly balanced class.

Disclaimer: Your DM smack you for even suggesting the hospitler PRC.
