So what d'you suppose all the MM3 pics represent?

The ghostly beholder is probably, um, a ghost beholder or some kind (ghost orb?).

I'm down with the "Eclavdra" interpretation of the she-Drow pic.

The dragon looks pretty volcanic to me.

The other two- is that a shadow? Are shadows back??

And what's that weird last one- some kind of elemental? Or is it one of those undead whose name escapes me- you know, the one that's a living graveyard? I lean towards elemental though...

Whatchall think?

Anthraxus? Mydianchlarus was always cooler in my book. ;)

Because it would be more of the "shuffling Yugoloths in with demons" which really irritates the Blood War/Planescape fans.

I mostly don't care at this point. It's a different cosmology entirely, a different game to me honestly, rather than a retcon of any of the previous planar canon. I find it wonky and not as interesting for a host of reasons, but it's nothing that's going to be upsetting at this stage.

Well, unless they decide to use Harishek ap Thulkesh and totally him mess up, making him a devil or something, because I created him. That's luck for you. I create only the second named baernaloth in D&D planar canon and less than a year later they abandon the entire D&D/Great Wheel planar canon. :P

I think the "shadow" is an invisible stalker. And that must be the volcanic dragon.

I think the last one looks like a really big, nasty earth elemental of some sort.

I'm interested in seeing how they do that without bringing back the daemons/yugoloths. I proposed an article on Anthraxus myself, some time back (not making him a demon lord, but something else entirely), and the declined. Now I know why. ;)

They yugoloths reimagined for 4e so far haven't been named "yugoloths" or "daemons", but at least once they have been hinted at as being a semi-separate subgroup of fiends with more mercenary behavior and slightly less chaotic behavior. Don't remember which 4e book I read that in . . . .

Obyriths are mentioned in the Demonicon preview material, so maybe Tanar'ri, Lamara (sp?), and Yugoloths will be named as subgroups of demons, or demon "families". We'll see!

Howdy, Planescape fan here. I like the new cosmology. Plane Below and Plane Above were a couple of fantastic books. The flavor coming out of planar books nowadays is some of the best stuff I can remember seeing in an RPG, and I look forward to the next publication. I really like what they've done with extraplanar creatures and adventures, and I have no trouble adopting what I liked about Planescape to the new cosmology. Which is fantastic.

But I suspect you're referring specifically to Shemeska. Please understand that he in no way represents me.

I agree with Mentat55 about the shadow monster being an invisible stalker. Also, I think the volcanic dragon picture (or a picture similar to it) was in the MM3 playtest article.

Regarding that huge elemental thingy my first impression was that it's a primodial, but I'm not sure.

Oh. I seriously thought the title said Max And Beyond. Then I thought Maximum Beyond?

And now I've got that phrase stuck in my head trying to figure out what it means.

Or maybe it could be Maximum Beyonce?
