Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton. Starts off well, with lots of little details about privateer life, but the second half of the book is poorly put together, and I think Crichton probably wanted to work on it some more to tighten it up.
Just finished Simon Greene's Unnatural Inquirer and Just Another Armageddon as well as Isaac Asimov's Fantastic Voyage novelization of a movie, story and screenplay by several other writers.
I'll be starting Asimov's Fantastic Voyage II soon- not a sequel to the original, but rather a re-imagining of the plot in his own unique voice.
