Now I'm reading the Last Colony, the third in the very well done science fiction series starting with Old Man's War. Next up will either be The Dain Curse by Dashiell Hammett or Blindsight another science fiction novel that someone said was good.

Just started reading some cheesy 4E Forgotten Realms novels, which features the spellplague happening almost literally in "real time" in 1385 DR. In particular, "Plague of Spells" (by Bruce Cordell) and "Undead" (by Richard Lee Byers). Both titles were released back in 2008, when 4E D&D was first released.

In the past, I always thought most D&D based fiction (or gaming fiction in general) was largely crap. But for some strange reason, I'm finding both "Plague of Spells" and "Undead" to be captivating in a sort of "guilty pleasure" way. I suppose it's like the sci-fi/fantasy literature equivalent of admitting that one enjoys "consuming pornography". :p

It's really more like channel surfing late at night and you stop off at a FX showing of Chronicles of Riddick for "just a second" and before you know it the credits are rolling and over an hour of your life is gone.

It's okay to enjoy derivative fiction and popcorn-thrillers churned out by a robotic author program. I have found inspiration for roleplaying adventures and characters, and even become a loyal fan of various pulpy trash basket fiction titles.

...Speaking of pulp fiction...

Just in case anyone was curious, yes Conan is flexing his "steely thews" in my 5th reading of Coming of Conan the Cimmerian...

I've recently started The Country I Come From by Maura Stanton which begins with a short story titled The Sea Fairies (title taken from L. Frank Baum) which is an excellent example of freeform roleplaying as well as being a touching story.

I finished A Game of Thrones and moved right on to A Clash of Kings. At this rate, I should have the series finished before A Dance of Dragons is released.
