MC: Eyes of the Vestige, Cursing and other Warlock questions

Hi!

I have a few questions that need interpretation. I'm taking Pact Initiate: Vestige Pact and I am wondering if I do get a Vestige to go along with my Eyes of the Vestige power? In other words, does it augment?

Second question - Eyes of the Vestige lets me place a curse on an enemy within 3 if I hit, does this have any effect? Ie does it function like a normal Curse and I get to deal Curse damage to that enemy?

Third, related to second, question - If the answer to #2 is "No, because you don't have a Curse to place from the start" (which is a reasonable interpretation), if I take the "Student of Malediction" feat (which gives me the ability to Curse once per encounter), does Eyes of the Vestige function?

Fourth - Does taking the Pact Initiate feat give you the "Eldricht Pact" class feature? I am thinking ahead and Dual Pact would be pretty nice in Paragon.

The Pact Initiate feat only gives you (1) the pact at-will power as an encounter power, (2) the ability to qualify for paragon paths that specify a particular pact, and (3) the ability to use wands/rods/pact blades for warlock and warlock PP powers.

Given that, my answers to your questions are:

1. I would say no, you do not get a vestige. The primary vestiges appear to be part of the Eldritch Pact class feature of a warlock. I don't think it would be a problem if your DM gave you the augment for one of the primary vestiges, though.

However...if you took a "Vestige of" power via the Adept Power feat (or through paragon multiclassing, or something), and used that power, then you could use the augment on your 1/encounter Eyes of the Vestige. However, one could argue that the use of vestiges, regardless of source, may be tied to the Eldritch Pact feature. Hard to say.

2. No, because, as you said, you do not have the Warlock's Curse feature.

3. I would say yes, that Eyes of the Vestige lets you place a curse on a creature within 3 squares of the target. But then, per the feat Student of Malediction, you could apply your Warlock's Curse damage just once, and then all curses end. So probably not so useful, though I can think of situations that might crop up where you would find benefit.

4. No, it does not.

3. However, the feat doesn't say that "all curses end" but rather "this curse ends after you deal its extra damage to an enemy". Now, whether or not that means that every curse I get to place ends after I deal the extra damage, it definately does not mean that if I place 6 curses, they ALL end after I deal damage to one enemy. :D

I'm no rules lawyer, but I can see why your DM would be willing to allow this. It is once an encounter, after all, and helps you feel more 'warlock-like' by cursing. Unless, of course, you have unearthed some wicked powerful combo using the vestige pact curse that was, until now, unknown to mortal men. In that case, I'd say you *are* a warlock, and should be burned at the stake.

Either way, sounds fun to me.

Well, it turns a little nasty at Paragon with Versatile Master if you, like me, are a half-elf with Eyes of the Vestige as the chosen Dilletante power as well...
