I keep running into people endorsing this mini-game on these boards. How can I get my hands on a copy? Does Polyhedron sell back issues? How well does the setting work with Guardians of Order's d20 Mecha book?

If you have D20 Mecha, then you just need to order the right back issue from Paizo. All you need is the advanced classes and a copy of D20 Modern.

Mecha Crusade got the advanced classes, feats, and personal combat rules and equipment, but their mecha rules are seriously lacking, especially if you want to use big bots instead of powered suits.

d20 Mecha is a vehicle creation ruleset (not just for creating mecha, but ships, cars, spacecrafts, starbases, etc.). Because the ruleset is effect-based (abilities and defects), it can be incorporated into any d20 games. All you do is select what you want and tally up the mecha points, which can be converted into GP treasure items or cost, sci-fi Credit item or cost, d20 Modern wealth system, etc.

(For Mecha Crusade, I suggest you replace the Budget Points for Mecha Points, proportionally).

Thanks for the advice. I've had d20 Mecha since right around when it came out, but I haven't really played with creating weapons or vehicles just yet. I'm considering picking up the DreamPod9 Mecha Compendium for some more example vehicles at various power levels.

Another question - the Pen & Paper RPG database lists Mecha Crusade as being in Polyhedron #154. Paizo doesn't appear to be selling Polyhedron issues independant from their Dungeon counterparts anymore. Does anyone know which Dungeon issue corresponds to November 2002? Am I being silly and misinterpreting what appears on their website?

Finally - I haven't really heard anything about the Mecha Crusade mini-game other than the fact that it's good. Can anyone tell me about the setting?

PS - I'm probably going to email Paizo's customer service or the backissues (at) paizopublishing (dot) com adress tomorrow to ask about Poly #154. Is their customer service generally good?

Just a comment about Mecha Crusade, hardness and such get rediculous with expensive mechas. After we tried out a combat with a small mecha using the heaviest armor type versus two giant medium-heavy armored mechas, we realized that using Hardness by its normal rules resulted in just rolling dice and then subtracting 90% of the damage.

I roll 15d6 damage... (2 minutes later after fumbling and recounting the dice) 64 damage.
Oh, well this guy has energy resistance of 30 against your type and hardness 30, so you deal 4 damage...

It became very boring very quickly. The only method to get around hardness, I think, was "Plasma Damage" which ignored hardness, but even that could be resisted.

I like the setting, brief as its description might be, though I'd use a different system for it.
Haven't looked into d20 Mecha yet; might be worth a look, I guess.
