Mecha game in Poly #95

is it out yet?????

Ok, I'm chomping at the bit to get this issue of Poly, but I can't find it anywhere. I've seen a number of you mention that you've read through it - how'd you guys get ahold of it already??

It's just came in the mail to subscribes... (And it rocks)

You can't get it off the shelves for about a month perhaps. (And it rocks)

I have mine now, and you will just have to wait. Oh, and did I mention how much it rocks.

How about at the end of this year or the beginning of next year, you compile the Open Game Contents of the first 6 Polyhedron's d20 mini-games as downloadable files on the Paizo or Wizards' web site or burn them on a bonus CD-ROM?
What a GREAT idea! I hope you're considering this, Erik!

I only had a brief chance to flip through it due to having to run off to work, but it looks very nice. I can not wait to dig into it and give it a try. Mmmm... Magically powered Mechs... Hmmm...

Well I've read through the rules in more detail and I must say I like it alot. I have two general ideas for game ideas. The first is a Voltron style game. For the Robobeasts I would use monsters from the various monster books and super size them if needed. :)

The other idea is taking the servomotors and sorcery idea and tweaking it abit. I wouldn't go with the a few mechs end up in a fantasy world or the mix of tech and magic. I'd go with two realities battling against each other. On one side we would have the typical fantasy world and all that goes with that. On the other side would be a futuristic world with mechs and such. Some major even would cause a rip between the two universes and then fun would ensue. ;)

Bump... sort of.

I saw Mecha Crusade at Barnes & Noble 2 days ago. Didn't read it but did page through it and it looks very interesting.

Once again, is there any way we can influence making Mecha Crusdade OGC?

Transformers, Macross, Voltron oh my

I absolutely love the mech rules. Its high time someone did some of these. Personally the thing that first came to mind when i thought of the magic/psionics + giant robots was psionically powerd robots. The higher the level of the piloting psion the more powerfull the mech becomes. This idea spawned these disgutingly fun ideas: built in laser blades that go up a virtual size category for x number of psion levels, Ranged weapons that do a set amount of damage and can be boosted by power point expendature (think something along the lines of the psionic weapon feat), bio mechannical suits (think eva's only less psychotic) that heal naturaly, add a set number to the dc's of any powers manifested while wearing this giant psi suit thingy, even when the pilot is not in the suit it has a modicum of intellignence and autonomy(due to the psi-crystal embedded in its cpu :D ), force fields like inertal armor, best of all these mechs would be totally innocuous looking, no guns or obvious weapons just a basic humaniod form. A high level psion could rip entire legions to peices with this technology. I just get this mental image of a colossal mech thundering onto the battlefield and seeing a lone mech with no mounted weapons. The colossal mech shoots at the small mech but the shots just seem to bounce off of it. The small mech looks up calmly and suddenly blasts foreward towards the big mech and then shreds the mech in close combat. JOY!!!

Magic users could also have a mech thingy like this but i just wonder about spell failure.

Another idea that came to mind was incorporating these mech rules into dragonstar, however the mechs are only found in the Terran imperium a small empire on the edge of known space that has so far been resistant to attacks from the imperial legions. And they got ahold of some imperial tech. Fun stuff.

Thundershot - here is your medium mech:

Medium Mechas: The smallest mecha can go; Medium mechs fill the role support for infantry and special operations troops. While no where near as capable as their larger brethren and unable to mount the battlefield shaking weaponry common to other mecha they are excellent in the reconnaissance and police/ security role.

Medium mecha have the following body slots available: Torso, Back, Shoulders, Left Arm and Right Arm.

Medium mechas add a +4 equipment bonus to a character's Strength score. Depending on materials used Medium mecha have between 50-100 bonus hit points which are added to the character’s total and damaged first.

Medium mechs have a slam attack that deals 1d6 points of damage. They have a reach of 2 meters. Their base speed is 10 meters.

To figure out hit points and cost halve the values in the Large column in Table 2-01 Build Point Cost/ HP on page 37.

Of course this medium mechs aren't really a threat to other mechs (unless you have the Anti-armor Saboteur feat, which I would allow characters in Medium mecha to use), but watch out infantry.
