Mecha game in Poly #95

Medium mecha have the following body slots available: Torso, Back, Left Arm and Right Arm.
Since you need a cockpit, and it takes up two slots, I think I would give the Medium-size mecha another slot or two. A Large mecha has Helmet, Back, L Arm, R Arm, Shoulders, Torso and Boots slots. I think you could give a Medium-sized mecha Shoulders or Boots slots and not unbalance anything.
Actually, that fits fairly well with the progression of body slots in the mecha from the magazine. If a Medium-sized mecha has five slots, add two to get to Large (seven slots). Add 4 to that to get Huge (11 slots). Add six to that to get Gargantuan (17 slots). And, in the only abberation from the pattern, add nine to that to get the Colossal (26 slots).
    Whadda think?

Questions on damage and mecha....

1. I see that having a mecha suit adds to your hit points. What happens when you are out of mecha hit points; does your character take the damage?

This is actually one of the problems I have with the Mecha Crusade mini-game. It seems like David Noonan (the author) was treating the entire mecha as a suit of armor that added to the player's stats. Yes, it seemed like if your mecha was out of hits, it came off of you.

I think the problem with these mini-games is that, well, they're mini. The authors do not have enough space to write out too many details so they have to take shortcuts to cram a lot into one issue. Don't get me wrong, I think David did an awesome job and that the game can work, however, I'm also not oppossed to seeing other rules for a d20 mecha game or some modifications to this one.

Until the poly stuff can be released as OGC I think we'll see other rules for d20 mecha. Some could be better, some could be worse.

I was just thinking of designing some d20 mecha rules right before I saw the latest issue in my local game store. I too, also have a fear of being influenced by such non-OCG games but I had to read it to see what was done. I like a lot of it but (lucky for me) is not how I envision it. With that said, I better put my money where my mouth is and hit the drawing board. Oh, crap!

Thanks,

For gamers, it doesn't really matter whether the content is OGC or not. We'll be porting whatever rules mechanics work to make MECHA CRUSADE more enjoyable to our own individual taste.

Having said that, I am looking forward to GOO's version of d20 Mecha.

I strongly recommend that in addition to declare mini-game as OGC (or most of them), Paizo would post bonus web-enhanced material of mini-games on their web site, www.PaizoPublishing.com. What better way to expand the mini-game and make the web site useful to us readers and subscribers?

Now that I finally got this issue of Poly/Dungeon, I must add that I do like it, but I have a few gripes:

The advanced classes are good, although the Sleeper Agent looks a bit forced, and the cyborg is simply nonsense (sorry) - why isn't cyberware equipment? It would add to costumizability (adding other kinds of cyberware) and realism. If having a cyborg class is neccessary, rule that the human body can only have so much cyberware, and the cyborg is capable of trancending that limit.

Mecha build rules - good, but it seems to be an unneccessarily "hardwired" requirement that the Mechas are humanoid in shape. Maybe add a structural option for extra slots? And how about a Computer Barin component?

The standard setting speaks of colonies on two moons. One of them is obviously Luna. I may have missed it, but which is the second? One of the Martian moons? Europa?

And i like how the introductory text says that D20 Modern should be out now :p
