Mechanical Dream

I saw a really good promo for an upcoming fantasy RPG Mechanical Dream at www.steamlogic.com.

A really interesting and new fantasy setting. It reminds me vaguely of D&D in that it appears playable and easy to get into. The world is open and there are no set path for the PCs or antagonists etc.

Ahhhh... Uhhhh... Errr... Hmmmm...

Strange.

Reminds me a bit too much of Tekumel though... Good setting, lots of detail, vivid... but just a bit too alien to get into.

Hurm...

Interesting....perhaps, as said, it's a bit *too* unorthodox, but it's at least a goldmine of style and world information.

...and I do like the physical/mental dichotomy....I smell houserules. :)

Actually it reminds me of "Oddworld" from the PS game :)

I don't really have the problem in getting into it. Its a pure fantasy world that is extremely open. In many ways it reminds me of the early open fantasy settings like D&D, WFRP, Runequest and Palladium where you weren't told you wer X doing Y. Agone is another more recent example of open fantasy settings.

MD has the advantage in my mind that there are fantastical elements as well as historical elements. You can do traditional MacGuffin hunts, dungeon bashes (with extras) as well as political intrigue, exploration and industrial disputes :)
