Mechwarrior: "Days of the Jackal"

The stranger slowly lowers his arms, but raises an eyebrow at her reply.

"You would have to defend yourself with a gun because the guy trash-talked to you?

Strange, don't you think so? You have been trained all those years at the academy as a warrior and feel threatened by someone feeding you the standard gibes about the Lyran partiality for assault mechs?

I wonder if you would also feel threatened by some protester banging a stick on your mech's foot; after all, he could scratch the lacquer."

Shaking his head, the man turns away.

"It had nothing to do with his insult, he threatened Ryan, and would not leave when repeatedly asked or warned, and he actively provoked a fight, I could not be sure he would not attack, so I was making it clear that he should not attack and just move along." McKenzie told the man. "I can deal with being insulted, not such a big thing, but being threatened is totally different." she continues defensively.

Alexander gives the simulator pods a thorough visual once-over, but quickly comes to the conclusion that, while a few of them might actually be academy-grade, none of them come even close to the kind of equipment he used at the NAIS. In fact, the ones towards the outward door of the hall even seem to be of the "joyride" variety.

During his "inspection", something else catches his eye: Sometimes, people leaving one of the professional simulators are approached by a Dark Knight and seemingly directed to the big doors in the rear wall, where a pair of security guards open one of the wings for them.

The man stops and turns back to McKenzie, giving her a small nod and a friendly smile.

"Good to hear that you did not intend to actually shoot him. Decisions like that are usually too easy to make and too hard to rectify."

"However, now that your demonstration has shown to poor Davis here," he adds, patting the still speechless Dark Knight on the shoulder, "that you are anything but a "mechbunny" and made him swallow both his tongue and his plans to get into your pants, why don't you and your companions try the simulators in the back? I am certain they will be far better suited for your purposes."

With a wink he steps back into the crowd.

Samuel blinks a couple times.

"A threat? You thought I was threatening you? When I am threatening you, you will damn well..."

He pauses as Jake grabs his arm and abruptly cuts off his tirade. As he listens further his expression changes before settling.

"You weren't bluffing, were you? This is why I don't play cards." he mutters the last to himself.

He abruptly seems to shrink into a tired old man. He notices the growing crowd of onlookers attracted by the drama and snarls.

"What the hell you vultures looking at?"

The crowd scatters under his glower as he gathers himself together.

He murmurs a thanks to the dark skinned man, then turns to Yuriko and Ryan.

He tips his hat. "Ma'am. Good luck, kid."

He allows himself to be drawn away by Jake. After staring at his face for a few seconds he whispers, "Can't place the face. I don't owe you money, do I?"

McKenzie smiles at Davis and winks at the comment about him getting in her pants. Thats what she had been thinking he was getting at before they had been interrupted by Sammuel.

She follows the advice of the man who is obviously in charge of the Dark Knights, or at least on officer and motions Ryan and Yuriko to follow her over to the real, academy class simulators. She slips into the line for those, hoping to get in soon to blow off some steam.

Malcolm watches the scene play out from a distance, and wonders, once again, if coming in here tonight was precisely the right move for his career. My skills are okay. At least I think they are... but there's no way I can compete with these attitudes. As the Dark Knight approaches them, he thinks, Good. He'll put and end to it. Oh crap...what if she shoots him and the police shut this down for today? No...looks like it's over. Malcolm has inadvertantly taken a step towards the group while watching them, and steps back to line only to find that the hot shot who's been behind him has taken his spot. And he just gave me a look! This really is going to be high school all over again, isn't it? Well, not for me it's not. He decides on a bluff. He puts on his best imitation of his father, and then adds a mildly derisive sneer, and puts a hand on the guy's shoulder. "He almost had a bad day. Didn't he, friend? It'd be shame for anyone else to have a bad day, wouldn't it? You can back up now." Without waiting for a response, Malcolm steps in front of him, and doesn't look at the guy again.

This place is a circus...
Yuriko takes one last carefull look around to see if there is any more trouble around but after seeing the colourfull crowd she decides that there is no way for her to notice it in advance. On the brigt side they have their places now so she moves to the simulators, her shooting deffinatly needs improvement.

From his place in line for one of the Academy simulators Kevin watches the semi-standoff with interest. He was pretty familiar with the mannerisms of veterans, and didn't quite see the reason for pulling a weapon on him. Anybody with that much bionics would have a gruff attitude which came with it. In fact, Kevin felt a little sorry for the guy.

He lowers his shades for a better look. Same group of three as before, though varied responses from each. The Kuritan woman was very diplomatic about it, the Steiner woman though... Kevin assumes that there must be some merit to the stereotypes back home.

He watches an acquaintance step in to break things up, and mentally cheers him on. The vetertan gets dragged off by what appears to be a friend of his, and the situation is mostly resolved. The Steiner woman was still talking to the Dark Knight. Kevin sighs, assuming the entertainment to be over.

Yuriko once again notices the well-dressed man in a trenchcoat paying attention to her. His mirrored glasses sit low on his nose, exposing dull blue eyes. He gives a lop-sided smile and slides his glasses back up his nose, then with a respectful inclination of his head returns his attention to the simulator he's in line for.

Since the little interlude caused so much trouble the crowd doesn't seem to see her as the attraction of the day anymore so this time Yuriko can actually notice this. Lacking any idea how to react she just nods back respectfully and goes on.
