Anyway... I wish to make a prop CDC (Center for Disease Control) medical report for my Call of Cthulhu (quick synopsis here: http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?t=63331 ) campaign. A rare disease has struck a tiny town and some of the PC's will be CDC personell. I'm wanting to do an information packet that the CDC will supply to the PC's. Anyone know where I could find something like this to fill in or edit? Any help would be most appreciated, thanks guys! :)

Paging Diaglo. Diaglo, come in, please.

I think Diaglo works for the CDC. But I may be wrong.

Man, an old pal of mine worked there but we lost touch. It was awesome, he nabbed me some really cool Biohazardous signs, tags, etc.

maybe something off of http://www.cdc.gov/ will be what you would be looking for.

That would be great!! I've been waiding through the morass of info at their site. Beyond the paperwork, I'd love to know how something like an outbreak of a non-deadly disiese, which was thought to be extinct, would be handled (see http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?t=63331 for more detailed on the disease). What department would see to it, whom would be there, etc...

Dang, you beat me as I was posting the link.

I spent quite a while at the CDC site... not alot of stuff that would be used by "staff" there, mostly general public notices, etc. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong areas...

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which is partnered with ATSDR (Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry)

we are part of the Public Health Service under the Department of Health and Human Services, which is part of the Executive branch of Government.

we are the only federal government agency with our headquarters located outside of DC.

sorry i got carried away...what was the question?

edit: we don't issue medical reports as such. we give recommendations to correct the problem since we are there by invitation. these are much like any other text document. although on the website you can find our official logo(the safer, healthier people one...what we commonly joke is the shiny happy people one ;) ) lab reports and such do have official forms. but each is different based on the disease or test performed.

and an official trip report is produced but it is just a bunch of garbled misspelled possible leads or future projects to help the investigators write their journal articles later. many of which end up in the circular file of their bosses. some however do produce New England Journal or Journal of the American Medical Assoc. or Science or Lancet or etc...articles.

our boss Julie Gerberding even made it into Cosmo

Diaglo's post from the other thread...

** we have personnel stationed in Alaska. we have epidemiologists (the people who investigate outbreaks) in all 50 states. Alaska has only 2 though. they are assigned to that state. they have various degrees to cover various needs. most are mds. but many are phds, dvms, or dentists even. some are economists. and they only act on the state's behalf. they would call for and Epi Aid. which is basically asking for more help. CDC will only investigate an outbreak if invited.

our job includes more than just infectious diseases. the National Center for Infectious Diseases would probably receive this initially. probably from a hospital seeing patients or from an increase in the incidence rate of mental problems in the general populace. it would produce a spike.**

Diaglo the reason I was thinking CDC is to add to the "strangeness" of the land. I want most of the PC's to be new to Alaska, not natives. I think it will add to the tension and would make the player's ignorance of the area realistic.

You mention that the National Center for Infectious Diseases would likely be called in first... having read the plotline, would it seem likely that the CDC would be invited? The illness is not a real disease, it's not contagious nor is it parasite based. It would probably have many of the symptoms of Lymphatic Filariasis, though clearly it is not. I suspect that would throw most medical professionals for a loop. Does that sound about right?

I'm thinking of doing some sort of medical hand-out on the village/town. What would that likely consist of? That's one of the things I have no clue about.
