Medium Sized Quadruped Flyers ...

Can anyone think of any four legged, flying medium sized, non-evil, creatures with a mind (ie; not vermin, etc ...) in a WotC product?

I'm not looking for something with a template added. I'd prefer a creature that is 100% stock as written, though an advanced version of a smaller creature might be ok ...

Dragons. IIRC, every single non-evil dragon detailed in a WotC product has a Medium-sized example at some age category or another. Possibly too powerful for your purposes, but they're there.

Another option that seems reasonably halfling-appropriate to me would be an (advanced) Medium-sized tressym (FRCS, IIRC); basically, a big, intelligent cat with wings.

Direbats might fit the bill. As far as I know, they're the only Medium sized creature suitable for being a mount outside of Dragons that are in the MM.

Apart from the "four-legged" bit, there's the Ravid in the MM - Medium sized, Fly 60' perfect, non-evil, Str 13, Int 7.

Again, apart from "four-legged", there's the eagle (1HD Small animal) advanced to 2-3HD Medium animal.

But, to be honest, that "No templates" rule is hamstringing you. The Winged template from Savage Species would be perfect for you, stuck on a Riding Dog or War Pony, for example.

+4 Dex, +2 Wis, Fly speed equal to base speed +20, Maneuverability dependent on Dex, for a +1 CR/+2 LA.

As written, the maneuverability seems to be dependent on Dex after the template bonus, which would give Perfect maneuverability for both of those animals. I'd be inclined to base it on the Dex of the base creature, which would yield Good for the dog, and Average for the pony. (It doesn't really make sense to me for a Winged horse to have a Maneuverability two classes better than a Pegasus...)

Just make a small breed of Hippogriphs. Same HD and all, but use the monster size-reduction table. I'm sure some people can find some rather small Horse/Eagle hybrids just like you can any animal and breed their size down.
