MEG's Urban Blight -- your thoughts wanted

Ok Naphtor, as promised, I went out and found Urban Blight at another LGS and brought it home. So which sections did you write/contribute to? ( I'll pay special attention... )

I am looking to flesh out a city that will be the HQ of an upcoming campaign, and thus was very interested in this book. I also bought ATLAS's Seven Cities today with the same purpose in mind ( i'll be lifting locations from several "cities" ).

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
UB definitely seems more encounter oriented than I was expecting, and seems to deviate a little from the marketing description on the back cover. I don't think that every tavern my NPC's might enter needs an encounter level rating, and I would hope that most Leather Goods shops will not have Ghouls lurking in the wings. So far, it is not that I don't like what I am seeing, it is just that I may need to adjust my planned usage of the product ( or not use ALL the detail... ).

I'm definitely "down" for the re-usability of a location, and think some in UB will work marvelously ( Sar-Ra-Tu's Gaming House for one - I would have loved to see more detail on the games and how to run them, getting the PC's involved in the action { section 4 etc.. } ).

My first Mystic Eye Product! I'm looking forward to reading it all the way through, and if I can still find this thread later, perhaps I'll post some follow up impressions.

Thanks BFG! I figured the thread would fade into the mists of obscurity. I realize a number of locales were somewhat less than reusable. I wasn't in on it from the ground up as I'm going to be for the rest and can't speak to that point. As for the EL's of each one, I agree that it reinforces the encounter feel, but just ignore it if you know combat will never take place. It's there as an aid.

Like any d20 product, Urban Blight is all about changing what you want to fit into your campaign. Obviously less change means less work for you, but locales-type supplements are a bit harder to find than say...splatbooks, so you have to make due for the time being. And since "foul" is MEG's thing (your ghouls in the leather shop reference), just lift it the heck outta there and affect some aligment changing on shop owners. I think you'll find that with minimal effort you can have what one might call a "normal" locale for a city.

Who knows, you may have need for plotlines later on in the campaign and it would be entertaining to reintroduce the foulness you took out of a locale via "new management". Especially if the PC's have frequented the place.

I haven't actually used any of the locations yet, but several of them will show up in the city my players are going to end up in a few sessions from now. I liked the book a great deal. This is exactly the sort of book I can use again & again. I have no doubt that eventually I'll use all the locations in the book.

I'm sorry I don't have specific suggestions. But if you do more books with plug-in locations, I'll buy those too!

There is one additional book not on the list called Rancid Manor. It's a mega-locale that has a lot of things going on inside. But the next book deals with non-urban locations and is called Beyond the Walls.

The cover for Foul Locales: Beyond the Walls is being worked on as we speak, and I have a set list of locations---wow, this one will also get a lot of buzz, it looks like this line (Foul Locales) is really finding a spot on the gamers book shelves!

I'll say something.

I really wished you guys would give a Brief Description of each local/situation at the very beginning. That way you don't need to read half the encounter to figure out what the situation is.

Some of them just said 'This is suitable for this level of PCs'. I would've liked to seen a rundown, like 'Flavor Country'.
