Mount both rings as part of a medium or large steel sheild, put a cover on them for the surprise factor.

Have the tank carry one shield into battle, keep the other shield with your character....
when you want to strike, attack through the front of your shield and out of the front of your partners shield.

As a special bonus {requires DM adjudication and HRs}.. block attacks with shield and redirect them to the Tanks opponent :)

Given that the OP laments that Whirling Blade has a range limit of 60', I doubt 15' will cut it for him :)

Ideally I'm looking for long range (1000+ meters.) Spectral hand already can be used to do it at Medium range (200+ meters if you're caster level 10 and up.) I'd like to find something better, and possibly see what the RAW-legal limit is.

Can you explain in greater detail? How far out can they make melee attacks?
 

Sharn can create Hex portals (like the ring gate idea) which it can see, cast spells through, and make melee attacks through. The gates can be up to 100 feet from the Sharn, though they must be created within 20 feet of the Sharn (can have up to three at out at a time). Each one can be moved up to 20 as a free action.
