Melee Wizards!

True but, 1 little level of fighter on a dwarf never hurt anything ;)
For myself a fully armored, shield using, rune scribing Dwarf Wizard is a cool enough concept, and different enough to warrant a little multi classing.

Go greataxe or greatsword. If you want a 1d10, why not just go 1d12 or 2d6. Shield spells don't take up your off hand.

I'm considering joining the local Living Greyhawk game, and started thinking about bizzare builds, so I'd not likely step on other's toes, and I began considering how to make a Melee focused character who was straight Wizard.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this score?

EDITED TO EXPLAIN FURTHER:

You probably read this elsewhere but here is the build for a melee focused wizard.

F1/W5/Eldritch Knight 2/Abjurant Champion 5/EK 3-9, this gives you BAB +17 and 18th level caster which is 9th level spells. If you go the sorcerer route you still have access to 9th level spells.

I agree but I don't think that it can be done unless he is happy with potentially a suboptimal build. It is resource allocation here. It may be what he wants as we are just giving ideas that he can either take or reject.
