Ok everyone. here is the port of call for my game. Sign in all of you from the recruiting thread and let us get a bsaic world up.

Character creation will be based on core books and Gnomeworks SRD when available. 32 point buy, level 1, max HP and gold. (I will be changing to more sophisticated currency basis but for now will use the standard pricing as per gp's.

I'm going to have to wait to work out my character until gnomeworks stuff comes out, but I'm thinking an assassin with guns just as a starting concept.

Since we are running with the merchant houses idea, what will each of the five merchant houses be focused on? Will we all start out associated with one house and then go where we will from there?

As of right now, I am shooting for a half-elven or human cleric of a church closely tied to the houses. The church would be technologically oriented and would fund innovators (so long as they worked for the houses of course). As a priest of the church, one of my main duties would be to preach the virtues of hard work and obedience to the peasant/factory workers who work for the merchants. I can see my self initially fighting any threats to the church's or the merchant's power, although over time I might begin to see the corruption partially inherent in both. My father was an inventor or artisan working for a house who was one of the few who enjoyed a high standard of living. He was instrumental in making sure I was among the ranks of the priviledged in the church. Due to my father's profession, I am fairly knowledgeable about technology. I feel justified in telling the peasants to simply slave for the merchants because I think others who work for the merchants enjoy the same standard of living my family did.

I am tenative to post any stats until I see gnomework's material, but fluffwise does this sound good? If it works, the interaction between me and Mac Feegle's assassin (who I assume might secretly be employed by the houses) will be interesting.

Our interaction could be cool.

I'm working with the plan that my character has only recently come to this area. His organization, the Gewehr Wraiths, is a technology only (no magic) guild from a relatively far away area where magic is very rare. The guild has recently decided to expand its territory, and my character is one of the first people in. This would have him in conflict with the established assassin's guilds in the area.

"Yes, but on the other hand, my contract never included the part about the invisible flying ninjas."

I'm interested, although I admit I liked idea #4 much better. It sounded more Fallout-ish.

Maybe I just missed this, but where are the rules we're playtesting?

Just to help with character/party design...

I usually gravitate towards support roles rather than combat roles. I'm willing to play the group healer in any system where the healing power doesn't come saddled with religious/nature-worship overtones (I don't care for that stuff in either real life or games), otherwise I usually play wizard or science/tech types. I've never played the leader of the party (though that's mostly due to the fact that I lack seniority in the only group of players I've ever been involved with), though I'm often the brains of it.

That said, though, I also wouldn't mind an ass-kicking, bubblegum-chewing change of pace. So if somebody else wants to be the wizard and we've already got our healer...

So as it looks, we have one rogue type (me) one healer type (tm_supreme) and one undecided, possibly wizard, possibly party tank.

More likely tech than wizard if I go non-tank, actually. Games with tech are rarer (at least in my experience), so the tech would be more of a change of pace.

Maybe tech/fighter... An engineer-type character with a fetish for really *BIG* guns. :]

Screw it, I really *am* getting tired of playing nothing but support characters. Pending a look at the actual rules I'm claiming the bruiser/big gunner role, probably with a side order of strategist (I just can't play stupid characters, it seems).
