Messages Being Marked Read Upon Arrival

The strangest thing is that this has never happened on my first visit of the day to EN World. It's always my second and later visits of the day that produce the problem.

I experience the same thing. Bizarrely enough, if I close the browser window completely and open a new one to visit later, there's no problems.

When I get to the front page, the time of my last visit is correct, but then when I follow the link to the messageboards, everything is marked read, as if my last visit was just a minute ago.

This happens *every time*.

That explains why it never happens on my first visit of the day. I shut my computer off in the morning before I go to work, so my first visit of the day in on a fresh browser session. In the evenings though I leave my browser running all the time.

Out of curiosity, Varianor and Cheiromancer, do you make use of the "Mark All Forums Read" function? I usually do, so my next step is going to be not marking everything read at the end of a visit and see what happens.

I sometimes do. But not always.

I just got here by linking directly to the forums (not the main page) and the problem didn't arise. The threads with unread posts weren't marked read. As long as I can remember to do this, maybe I won't have any more trouble.

Switching around whether I come to the forums directly or via the main page didn't make any difference for me.

not every time (and not even most of the time), but it does happen to me as well.
