okay here is the deal. i'm play a rogue3 ranger4 for a game and i aquired ;) a ring of mage hand that i can use four times a day and i fight with metal boomerangs and also use the as large daggers. i was wondering can i use the ring to in combat to retrieve my boomer if it hits and catch it if it doesn't? or do i need combat casting. and can i use the ring to preform a sneack attack on the enemy with my boomerangs

Mage hand is very limited telekinesis...you couldn't use it to make attacks. However, you could use it to retrieve objects....keep in mind that the fastest it can pull in items is 15 feet per round so it might be a very very slow way of doing it depending on how far you throw the item.

Sneak attacks occur when someone is denied their Dexterity bonus to AC (Usually flat-footed) or flanked by two creatures. There is no facing in D&D, so you can't sneak attack by maneuvering your boomerang behind someone for instance. A weapon by itself also doesn't threaten adjacent squares, so you couldn't throw the boomerang, close with your enemy and flank them when the boomerang comes back. Since mage hand can't make attacks, it doesn't threaten and can't help you to flank even if you concentrate on it.

So the ring can't really help you perform a sneak attack.
