Heroes of Hig Favor: Dwarves has rules to create all kinds of alloys with different abilities. The rules are simple but very usefull. Other than that, MaoF has the most metals i've seen.

Well, I haven't seen either of the resources cited above, but in my campaign there are many special materials, most of which I've not detailed in too much detail. One exception is orichalcum, a coppery-looking metal with strong antimagical properties; a room lined with orichalcum can't be scried or teleported into or out of. An orichalcum door is extremely resistant to magic and psionic attack as well; it has SR/PR that depends on the mass of orichalcum.

Good way to lock up pcs and make it tough to retrieve them...

It's also great in traps.

a bit off topic, but . . .

How inferior can an inferior material get? In the DMG, it sais that inferior materials bestow a -2 penlaty to attack and damage.

But there are some problems with this. Obviously, a plastic sword would hurt much less than a bronze one. But with that DMG ruling, they're the same.

Iron, I think, is assumed to be the standard material for weapons in DnD. It has Hardness 10, and 30 hp per inch of thickness.

Does anyone know of an equation or something to tell weather a weapon has a particularly harsh penalty?

I really meant, like, "This new metal is is this and this and it does this" Thanks for all the book names, but I don't think I'll be buying any new books soon.

Do you have access to any of the books mentioned? Maybe through a friend, fellow player, or DM?

Heroes of High Favor: Dwarves has everything you need. You can make any alloy you like with the rules. It's only $10 and also has great dwarven feats, PrCs and fighting styles. Even I can afford $10.
