The DELUXE edition of Blackdirge's Death of a Demon Lord is now available. You can pick it up in softcover for $19.99 or PDF for $12.99. The same epic novel, but with artwork and full game stats for Abrigor, the Plane of the Damned; Pyrak the Demon Lord, and his weapon, Fiendbleeder; Hedrenetherax, Pyrak's balor major-domo; Gemnez, the scheming, bloated guardian of the spawning pit; Beyemon the archdevil, lord of the first layer of Hell; Grimclaw, leader of Pyrack's dreadwings; Heskera, the strangely loyal marilith; and Hazergal Redfist himself in his epic, CR-35 mortal glory!

[bq]The first novel in the METAMORPHOSIS trilogy! The DELUXE EDITION - large size, full stats and game info for characters, critters, places and items, and beautiful artwork.

Death is only the beginning…

The wicked archmage Hazergal Redfist is dead, slain by the traitorous hand of his closest friend and confidant. The world rejoices as the tyrant mage’s empire comes crumbling down, ending two centuries of brutal tyranny and war. But fate has only begun to weave the twisted skein of Hazergal’s destiny, and as the light and warmth of life slip away, the former archmage finds himself on the bleak, demon-haunted planes of the Abyss, his soul condemned for all eternity.

[imager]http://enworld.rpgnow.com/products/product_22560.JPG[/imager]Now a petitioner - the feeble soul shell from which all planar life is created - Hazergal is a shadow of his former self, seemingly bereft of the awesome power he commanded in life. Alone, defenseless, and beset by the fell inhabitants of the Abyss, Hazergal faces countless eons of torment and humiliation, his eternal reward for a lifetime of wickedness. But Hazergal soon realizes that he is different from the other abyssal petitioners. Memories of his former life remain, and in the deepest recesses of Hazergal’s soul a terrible power grows, a power that will propel him along a course no mortal has ever undertaken, ultimately leading to the pinnacle of fiendish might.

But such power is a bright beacon of opportunity to the terrible abyssal rulers, and Hazergal soon finds himself embroiled in the lethal politics of the chaotic plane. Forced to emulate the demonic inhabitants of the Abyss in both body and mind, Hazergal must navigate a treacherous landscape of chaos and evil aided only by a curious rogue devil, and his own formidable intellect. And although destruction and damnation awaits him at every turn, the faint specter of ultimate power beckons Hazergal on, as he makes the arduous climb from dretch to demonlord.

Death of a Demon Lord is the first novel in the METAMORPHOSIS trilogy, based on the epic Story Hour, Metamorphosis: From Dretch to Demon Lord. [/bq]

Sold! I can't wait for the next one...

Hey Morrus, I looked on LuLu for Steam & Steel also but didn't find it... was I mistaken in thinking that was available there? Not sure the situation with that one but if that was available in print, I'd buy it with my next order- along with DoaDL deluxe edition #2!

Thanks,

BFG

I have to say that this is a bit dissapointing. I just bought the print version of the book from Lulu.com, and two weeks later you release another version with more content and art for about the same price? How long was the regular version out before a deluxe version was released? I feel a bit cheated, because obviously this one was planned before I bought mine. I am a regular customer of EN Publishing, owning almost every PDF that they've published, a WotBS subscriber, and a community supporter for a 2-3 years or more.

I can understand a deluxe version being done after the series is complete, or even after a year.... but this was quick.

I know you need to make money, but I am sorry to say that this doesn't feel right.

When the series was announced Morrus made it fairly clear that this was how the books were going to be released.

I'm sorry you missed that in the original announcement - I do understand your frustration.

On the other hand, in the initial thread a lot of folks stated they were going to hold off for the deluxe edition. Not me of course - I really just wanted to read the fluff. I would bet this version way outsells the other as folks who waited dive in.

Note the other two books in the series will follow the same pattern AFAIK.

Every announcement indicated there would be two versions of each book released. I went out of my way to make that very clear.

One version is a novel, novel sized, geared towards those who want to read and treat it as a novel.

The other is a gamebook, formatted differently with stats for those who want to treat it as a gamebook. Not so ideal for reading novel-style.

There was no deception going on. You can read the announcement here. The only change ia that we never intended to release the novel verison as a PDF because we didn't figure people would read a novel on their computer screen, but people demanded it, so we did.

I'm sorry if that doesn't feel right to you, but we were pretty upfront about it - we wanted to give people the option of which one they wanted, and get each one out of the way and move on to the next one as quicklly as possible.

For the record - there will be two versions of each book in the trilogy; a novel and a game book version.

But, if you realy feel you were cheated, drop me an email and I'll send you a free ENP PDF of your choice (in fact, I'll extend that offer to everyone who bought the novel version prior to this announcement - make sure you include your receipt in the email).

It's now in my shopping cart at lulu. Just waiting for bills to disappear, and so on.

Glad I waited for the gamebook version. It'll cater even more to my tastes, and needs, I think.

And I will go with print after all, as the conversion rates are still good (better in fact @ 0.88 USD or so) and the shipping to Australia seems more than fair, regardless of my previous assumption to the contrary.

I didn't see it in the initial post when I read about the release. Since I glossed over the release, I missed it. I take responsibility.

I've already got everything at this point. So I will pass, thanks for the offer though.

A bit of thread necromancy to ask if print versions of the Deluxe will be available at Gen Con? I really hope so.
