Metroid D20?

Hey, just a quick question for y'all, but what version of D20 would you use for a d20 version of Metroid, and what modifications would you make to it?

I was thinking of working on creating a Metroid game sometime in the near future and expanding upon the background, and wanted to get some feedback.

Not a big fan of that work; seems more like "play through the video game but rolling dice!" rather than an RPG, which is what I'm looking to do.

Well, I would probably use a d20 Modern / Star Wars hybrid. At least until the whole d20 Future thing comes out (eventually). d20M for the classes and mechanics, Star Wars for the technology statistics and spaceships, adapted for the vehicle system of d20M.

Mostly, I imagine you're going to want rules for the power armor that Samus wears which will take into account the Chozo power-ups. I'm not really aware of any supplements which would really cover that - d20 really hasn't advanced (pardon the pun) very far as far as futuristic stuff goes, besides Star Wars.

Wouldn't Samus's armor be considered an artifact anyway? I always thought her armor was unique.

I think her gear is unique, but I do know that the better you did in Super Metroid on the SNES, the more naked she got. :D

BTW, blackshirt5, it's Thom Yorke -- yeah, I know, crazy Brits and their spellings.

Thanks Dave_O, I'll fix that.
I suppose a lot of it depends on which games you're using as source material, for one. If you use Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion, you've got a lot more world-building material to build upon. Consdering that Metroid Prime essentially establishes that Samus' armor is a unique artifact left behind by a a fallen race especially for her, it's hard to use her as a basis for an ongoing game, per se.

That said, you could use Dragonstar, d20 Modern or even Mutants & Masterminds or Spycraft alone or in a hybrid together to create what you need. Maybe you could be a little more specific about what you're trying to accomplish. The main thrust of Metroid usually makes for a good one-shot solo adventure, not a group campaign (at least not without modification).

If you want the more 'cartoony' feel and powered armors, I would suggest BESM d20 (Or just grab the d20 anime srd from GOO), as well as the d20 mecha SRD for desigining powered suits of all kinds.
