MIC: Tentacled Rod Questions

Starting up a pbp game and one of my players asks the following:

I do have a question about the rod though. It states that when its activated it makes 6 attacks at its own attack bonus against 1 target, but what about the rest of the round? Can it make Attacks of Opportunity, and if so can it make multiples since we all have combat reflexes?

Whats the verdict?

Creatures, not objects get to take AoOs. Unless the object is very specific and says it can take AoO's, then it does not get to take AoOs. IF the rod is also wieldable as a weapon, the wielder should be able to take AoOs using the rod as a weapon.

I do not have the MIC, but this item came from a well-known module (see spoiler). If it has the same text, then the answer is no. It takes a standard action to use the rod like that. So, with a BAB of +6 (for example), you do not make 12 attacks.

Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. Note also that the item described here is a greater tentacle rod. There is a lesser tentacle rod with only 3 tentacles and a smaller bonus.
