Mice Defence Coat (also called Mad Mice Coat)

Hi folks, I made this item after being inspired by a picture of Gareth Pugh's fashion creation showcased in "2007 London Fashion week". What do you think...would your character wear it or DM drape it on a villian?

Mice Defence Coat (also called Mad Mice Coat)

Summary: This coat provides the wearer with DR 5/- (enhancement bonus) for the first 5 attacks in any 24 hour period. The wearer incurs a -5 circumstance penalty to Hide and Move Silently checks. Also the coat can be commanded to Summon Rat Swarm once/week as a Standard action.

Body Slot: Cloak/Cape/Mantle
Price: 10,000gp

Description: This three-quarter length coat of shiny black leather is festooned with buckles and flowing leather straps. However it’s most striking feature is the mass of pure white mice that swarm around the wearer’s back and shoulders. These red eyed rodents are magical and effectively part of the coat; they cannot be controlled in any way.

The insane mice are continually in motion and have an uncanny ability of positioning themselves in the path of oncoming attacks. They absorb damage as a number are squished against the coat in a gory splatter of blood and fur, then drop lifeless to the ground and disappear. This protection provides DR 5/- (an enhancement bonus) against the first 5 successful attacks at which point the defence is depleted. Slain mice are magically renewed by the coat each night at midnight. The mice do not interfere with the wearer’s spells or touch attacks or those of opposing enemies.

The coat’s wearer suffers a -5 circumstance penalty to Hide and Move Silently checks from continual swarming and squeaking of the mad mice.

Once per week the wearer can command the coat to Summon Rat Swarm as a Standard action. This power functions as per the spell Summon Swarm (CL5, 35' range, PHB pg289, MM pg239) except that you have control over the swarm and the duration is 5 rounds.

This item is normally favoured by warriors and arcane casters of non-good alignment.

This is just sick, and I kinda like it. But I think it need to go farther. >=) I think the mice that fall off the coat shouldn't disappear, because I like the idea of leaving a trail of dead, gory mice behind you. hehe
There are also other uses for this coat! Think about it, take a page from Thor's book and pluck a few mice off for meals. Sure you'll want to de-fur them, but then just roast those puppies on or throw 'em in a stew. What, like it'd be natier than Iron Rations for the 4th week in a row? These are hearty adventurers. :)
My only question is, how noisy is the coat to wear?

I really like this item, but I'm trying to make it more thematically appropriate for my Alienist. I was thinking perhaps eyes, since they've popped up a couple of times in the story hour, but I don't see that as providing DR. Anyone have a clever suggestion?

A clever suggestion? No. A boring one? Bonuses to spot and search checks, 360 degree vision until hit; if hit, regenerates after five hours.

Maybe.... light sensitivity as a weakness?
